Mornin all. Has anyone ever done the KDP mod on
The 8.3? All i have found so far on the internet refers to the 5.9. Is this problem also on the 8.3?

I have checked a few 8.3s for a the KDP,but never found a loose one.
DO check the bolts on the compressor brackets.

I took the cover off of my early 12valve dodge pickup and was going to install a tab over the dowel but decided to not remove the case bolt and then just welded the dowel to the case. Sometimes having a plSma machine and a miller wire hooked up makes you lazy.

When I looked into the KDP I discovered my C8.3 had a different gearcase than the 5.9 engine. Not sure the KDP is an issue on the C8.3 engine/gearcase. Somebody else know different?

I know when shopping for a BMC there was a 95 in AK with a fresh 8.3 power plant. I was told the engine was replaced because KDP.
That is the only one I heard of personally.

That is the bus that I bought. The PO told me that the bus experienced an sudden loss of oil while driving in a rain storm. I believe that something punched a hole in the rear engine cover. I am not sure that anyone is certain what happened exactly and don’t recall seeing that they were charged for a dowel pin on the receipts from the overhaul. So I have read about the issue also, is it applicable to a 8.3? I don’t know for sure.

LeRoy and all other Cummins owners,
I had a sudden loss of oil in the engine, alarms went off, I shut it down immediately... Had it towed to DD shop, after I called Randy for some help with shops in the area, where I broke down... What it turned out to be was, the bottom nut on the stud that holds the compressor to the block had backed off and all the oil poured out all over the jeep!!!
So I would suggest tightening down all them nuts to make sure you don't have the same thing happen!!!

killer dowel pin is always needed in either 5.9 or 8.3 IMO

fixed many and not needed unless it had upgraded cam cover with casting stopping this situation

all the way up to 2004 who knows unless you pull cover to see the problem maker

again just me.......
