Thumbs up Zero battery in AM followed by engine quit!! (Defective Solenoid)

A bit of worry this AM when after starting while checking toad signal lites, etc.; chassis batteries dropped to zero, then engine quit - started after a few minutes - used aux battery sw to do so. All looked normal, but since we were heading thru hundreds of miles of small farm towns - decided to have it checked before leaving Colby, KS "metropolitan" area. Thru Coachnet found a nearby Cummins and was able to drive there. They were at a loss and we agreed it was probably a stuck relay or ?? so off we went for about a half mile when same happened - so again with aux batt sw drove back to Cummins. Again they were at a loss, but together we tried to figure what was the problem. Took out electrical diagrams then checked alternator, batteries and whatever else we could think of - - - then when we about to use TNT, checked a solenoid under driver's window outside on BMC, and found it erratic!!!! Half hour later replaced the part and off we went - some 375 miles for the day.
Service manager at Cummins (Dwight ??) was superb and hung in there and put us at front of line. He's our hero.

Glad you figured it out and thanks for posting the info. If it happens to other BMC owners we'll know where to look first.

Ed,

Was this the Cummins shop;

Cummins Central Power LLC‎
1880 South Range Avenue
Colby, KS‎
(785) 462-3945‎

If not give us some more information about the Cummins Dealer and Shop, such as Name, Address or just the Town and a Phone number and I'll add them to our Service Center List.

A picture of the offending item would be appreciated, if possible.

Is this the solenoid that combines the chassis and house batteries? (Does it kinda look like the old Ford starter solenoid mounted on the inner fenders of Fords?)

Thanks Ed and glad you have good fix.

Ed
Ed was having problems uploading the picture, as it was too large so I resized it and uploaded it for him and here it is. I am not sure if this is the actual angle that it appears on his BMC, so Ed will have to clarify that.

Thanks Ed and John.

FYI by comparing to my BMC that image upside down. The relay is right below that ECU in the picture.

I wonder if I ought to have one of those in my "spare" box. Hmmmmm
