Default 12V Dash Fan (Interior not engine/dash air)

Been looking for replacements for the cheapo 12v Dash mounted plastic fans we have. I seem to remember seeing some decent sturdy fans in a friends WL years ago.

Looking for something that maybe has aluminum construction, doesn't flop around. I don't care if it oscillates or has multiple speeds, just need something that is not too noisy, fairly small (saucer sized) and once locked in position STAYS there. It'll be a Permanent install to replace the OEM ones and can be used going down the road. Most pictures lately don't show what others may be using and I tried a search but only see info on generator, engine cooling or fixing AC systems.

We did a new 15k BTU Penguin last week. So we are up to 3 roof mounted units, just need to move the air around a little when in the solarium up front.

Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

Our last trip to the coast a few weeks ago (95+ temps) would've been drastically more comfortable with the fans working. Thus my search for a good quality replacement. No cheap plastic, no cheesy, flimsy mounts. I'll do it once and that'll be it. Anyone have some take-offs or know who supplied BlueBird? I'll check the ones mentioned in the other thread but don't hold much hope in todays world of asian plastic. Tried a couple of RV places while down at the coast and they all wanted to "order" 2 $15 fans sight unseen. Nope, nu-uh, been there, done that, cheap is just, well... cheap. No way $15 is a quality product.

I saw the link on the other page linked above. Fuzzy picture, no brand name (when did putting manufacturers info with products become such a no-no), just the briefest of descriptions. Doesn't really make me feel warm and fuzzy about it. Might go that route. I assume you've used the model listed there?

Hate that it's still a shot in the dark until it arrives at my door. Guess I can check on their return policy. (I post this all the time looking at the LED 3rd brake lite from Hella shipped to replace a Hella 3rd brake light which I gave them nubers off of... and it's wrong, it's too big. Hella themselves are useless in tracking down the right part.. Cost more to return it than I paid for it in the first place.) I guess I can try making a phone call Monday. Also have a in with a friend at Fleet Pride here in Austin.

Edit: So was talking to my buddy, went onto Fleet Pride's site and comparing their's to the fuzzy pic on I80 and it looks like a Maradyne 1000 fan. They carry them down there so I think I'll go over and fondle a few this coming week. I'll let you know what I find out. Google now is finding this fan everywhere (helps to have a brand to use). Here's clearer pics, liking looks/color of the 2000-12 (if it works out) as i don't need something chrome and shiny on the dash blinding the pilot in traffic. Some pics of them below. Buddy said they feel quite solid the few times he's picked on up...

I just bought 2 chrome ones from the local truck dealer, nice solid pieces, $20 bucks each on sale, regularly $49.95
You can get them at any Peterbilt, Kenworth or IH dealer I would think.

Hi Ken,

I don’t have any experience with these but Maradyne Mobil Products has what looks to be some pretty heavy duty dash fans. They even list replacement parts which suggests that they’re not just throwaways.

Maradyne Mobile Products
4540 W. 160th Street
Cleveland, Ohio 44135
Ph: (216) 265-8006 x136 • Fx: (216) 362-6342

Here's the link - just click on the “Dash Fans” button.

I’ve seen these on Orr & Orr’s site before and it looks like they still carry them. They are pricy but hopefully that’s a reflection of the quality.

See that AS WE were checking this out and I was modifying my last post (I type slow), John put the exact info we were looking at up. Thanks! Will definitely be checking the Maradyne out this week.

Default Fans sorted - Went with Maradyne

So my buddy brought a couple of the fans they stock by with him and immediately I knew the Maradyne was the 'real deal'. We wound up going for 2 Maradyne 3000 fans to replace the junk that was on the dash. With the rheostat on that model we can adjust speed as needed.

This past weekend I installed the first one. I'm debating where to put the second one, likely overhead closer to where the driver can actually utilize it. The attached picture shows the edge of the dash which naturally makes me wonder who was smoking crack when they thought that one would work where they put it originally.

Only extra stuff needed was to go to my local bolt supply and pick up stainless bolts and lock nuts to replace the stainless sheet metal screws it ships with. Had to put a ringlet on the ground wire to act as a ground as the Maradyne runs ground through the base itself.

Attached is a pict of the new one installed in the leftmost position. The before shot is also included. Will likely remove the other and install either a cigarette lighter socket or some other power port to power stuff like cell phones or GPS or the like. Suggestions there welcome as well.
