Default Cat 3208 turbo pipe

I bought a 1982 FC 33' about a year ago. I have only been viewing this forum until now, I have enjoyed it and learned alot. Now I need some help. I'm having difficulting locating one of the short exhast pipes that goes from the exhaust manifold to the turbo on the 3208. it is the one with the bellows in the middle of it. The PO put a straight pipe on one side and it was leaking alot at the exhaust manifiold. I can get one at the Cat dealer, but they want $300 for one. Dose someone know of a good source for a used one.

Thanks
Bob

Bob,

Try to find a school bus salvage yard to see if they may have a used one, or give this outfit a call they are in Rugby, ND. I do not know if a later model CAT 3208TA engine parts would fit.

Wanderlodge Owners Group > Good, Bad, and Ugly > Vendors > HARTLEY'S SCHOOL BUS PARTS

A lot of Ford LN (Louisville) model trucks used the CAT 3208 engines too, as well as many other motorhomes.

corrugated stainless is expensive and requires special skills to work with. Enterprise Machine Shop works extensively with this product to produce commercial boat exhausts. They can be reached at 508-945-3808, ask for Tom. I have no financial interest in this company, however; they are close friends. Randy visited the shop when he and Carol were here in September, they are legit.

Turbo feed pipe is not an unsophisticated POS. Any Cat part will be expensive, but it would be worse if they quit supporting the engine family. Only reason they continue to do that is due to marine applications. An old saying is 'bucks or bull shilt". You already know what's up with the jerry rigged solution, now you may want to do the job correctly.
Problem with used is there is no way to tell how long the corregation will last in service. With out corregation the expansion from heat will warp the flange fit between manifold and turbo inlet, the constant movement from hot to cold required the costly design.

To further the point, I doubt my buddy could make it much cheaper.

Ya, on that subject the stainless headers and complete 3" exhaust system for my 65 Coronet cost a whole buncha money. From a place called TTI that specializes in old Mopar exhaust.

Crit and Mike are spot on.
Changing that pipe has got to be a PITA,changing it to a used one that may blow out and possibly start a fire is not a good idea.
I'm big on saving a few bucks, but $300 sounds like a good buy in this case.

FWIW,

I recently replaced some injector lines and other small engine parts and purchased from CAT. The CAT house where I was at the time is a big operation with a big overhead. They charged me "List" pricing.

Turns out I needed another i line and am now located in St. Petersburg, a big marine area. Saw a small CAT sign on building that is an old style neighborhood Chevy dealer. They told me they support a lot of marine apps with their CAT affiliation and had access to all CAT stuff.

They were happy to set me up with wholesale pricing and this was roughly 15% less than list on an injector line $60 v $70. Ordered the part from Tampa and it was in the next morning.

Anyway, this place appears to have a low overhead and they could not have been more accommodating. Even gave me a hard copy of the 3208 parts manual with all drawings and exploded views (they don't often use these anymore)!

Place is:
Maher Chevrolet Inc.
2901 34th St. N
St. Petersburg, FL 33713
1-800-330-3650
Pat Eggert the rep I dealt with.
