Default New Mini-Rally ?

Speaking of an excuse to get together and food to eat.
There is an area in New York that my wife and I love going to. It's New Paltz, NY. It's a small college town with world class rock climbing, hiking, biking (road and mountain), Minnewaska State park, Mohonk Mountain house, wineries and loads of other stuff to do right there within a few short miles.
There is a county fair grounds that has different events thru the year. Two of the events involve food. One is a Rib Fest competition and the other is called Taste of New Paltz. The Taste of New Paltz is when all the local resturants and wineries set up booths and you can buy mini samples of all their specialties. We've never been to the Rib Fest but did go to the Taste last year. Our biggest problem was that the samples were so large, that we got full to quickly (this year we will share with each other more).
I'm thinking it might be a fun place to have an informal mini-rally. I think arrangements could be made for us to stay right at the fairgrounds. I know they have some hook ups and a dump station. The Rib Fest is in Aug. and the Taste of New Paltz is in Sept. (oh yea, it's a big apple growing/picking area also).
I'd like to know if you were interested in coming which event would you prefer?

Sounds like a great idea, Tom! The Taste would appeal to us.

Well the Rib fest was last weekend. I was kind of scoping it out for possible parking for the Taste of New Paltz. At the rib fest it seemed that the vendors and contestants used all the available hookups.
Since the Taste of New Paltz is all local vendors I don't forsee them using the RV hookups. I need to get there during working hours and talk to the people in charge and see if we can pull this off.
That was the long way of saying, I don't know anything yet!!!!

This is going to be the NY part of the Tri-State Trifecta this year!
September 16th 2012
Is the Taste of New Platz http://www.newpaltzchamber.org/
It will be held at the Ulster County Fairgrounds http://www.ulstercountyfair.com/page.asp?pageid=68
This is an event thats on a Sun. a lot of the local restaurants sell sample tastes of their specialties. I have been to it the last two years and have not been disappointed. There is also a lot of stuff to do in the area, and you won't be dissappointed.
I met with the commitee last week and they are very excited to have us there. The park has water and electric (30amp) sites, dump station on property. 20 spaces! The chamber of commerce has to rent the park for the week (Wed. to Wed.) even though they are only using it for a few days. I need to verify that we could stay the whole time, but at the very least I know we can stay for the weekend. They need to charge $35 the first night and $30/night there after. Which will include 2 free passses to get into the Taste.
They get about 9000 people to this one day event. In the past they have also had some vintage cars and motorcyles on display. We talked about putting a Vintage Bird on display! I think this would help our coaches be better known. Thoughts on this?
Anyway I just wanted to get this posted so people can make plans and get their spot reserved as I'm pretty sure we will fill up. I will find out about dry camping also.

See previous post.
No thoughts, opinions, advice, on putting a Shiney clean Vintage Bird on display at an event where there will be 9000 people?

Hi All,

This is a beautiful place to visit in the summer. Can you say Shawangunk?

Check out these photos!

https://www.google.com/search?q=shaw...w=1601&bih=882

and the geologic and historical information.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shawangunk_Ridge

Combine that with Sorrentino Fest and its a winning combination!

Tom-

Sounds great! Count me in! Not sure which of those links is where I go to register for a campsite? Are we staying at the state park or the fairgrounds?

Jim,
Consider yourself counted in!
I will PM you the form to send into the chamber of commerce. We actually just finalized it today. The Chamber of Commerce is really treating us nicely. They have to rent the park for a week even though they are only using it for one day. They are going to let us stay there the whole week for $30/night if anybody is interested in spending more time in the area.
