Can't help you but can relate. When I bought the PT it was registered in Georgia and of course the title had to be transferred in Pa. The DMV required that the VIN be verified, with either an pencil tracing or by an official document filled out by a inspection authorized to basically testify that the VIN number on the Georgia title actually matches the number on the coach.

Think we could find that number? Nope. I know the people at the inspection center and finally we agreed that the number had to be on there some place. The forms were signed and the Pa title issued but where the numbers are have me at a loss. This is a two owner coach and I have the information on all the PO's and I know things are on the up and up but those numbers have alluded me.

So perhaps others can educate us both as to the location of the "right" numbers. They are not the numbers on the plate in the engine compartment.

John,
Yours may be where mine is, above the dash in the small gap between the windshield and ceiling (thanks Randy!!). You essentially have to sit on the dash facing backwards and then look straight up! I don't know about the FC's.

This foil contained date of mfr., GVWR, GAWR: Front, GAWR: Rear, a five digit V.I.N. and CLASSIFICATION.

How do I verify that the five digit number stamped on the foil is actually the correct VIN number? Where else in or on the body or frame might I find a stamping?

Thank you.
Donn,

I moved the thread for you and here is where my VIN and other serial numbers are located on my 'Bird.

The area I am speaking about is depicted by the pictures on the right side of JF's posting. You could sit where Buddy is sitting, lean toward the windshield and look up and towards the driver's side to see the data plate.

John Finn, thank you for moving the post to its appropriate seat and for providing a picture of Buddy.

The vin number foil you have is similar to mine except that it is taller and has tire pressure on it. So now I have an idea of where mine might have come from. I'm going to try to verify that my five digit vin is truly mine, but I have no reason to doubt this at the moment. Hopefully I'll eventually find another reacurrance of the vin stamped in something more permanent than the detached thin foil.

This gave me an excuse to learn the workings of this forum. :-)

Regards,

Thanks to John H. and Bill.

Default Blue Bird Serial Numbers

Kind of curious. Does anyone know the Blue Bird serial number methodology?

Randy's 1995 was 111043

My 1995 is 110014

Both are Series 60 engines.

They are clearly not sequential. The third digit must mean something else. Since my couch seatbelts were dated October 1994, I was assuming mine was a later 1995, but it doesn't appear that way looking at Randy's s/n.

Ron,my coach was said to be the last 95 made, the aquahot was on the drivers side, and the early coachs had the aquahot on the passenger side.

There was somewhere on the web a few years back an answer to your question. Each digit of the VIN represented a component or a modification in the manufacturing process and the last 5 or six digits represented the unit number. Several years ago (80s) when the PT & FC were built some chassis were actually built in South America. For some birds were the chassis was used in another transport there may be several hundred unit sdifferent between Wanderlodges. Bill Pape's bird and my bird are 4 units apart in assembly converstion, mine being the oldest but our chassis numbers are almost 1000 apart. That would lead me to believe there were 1000 school busses built between our 2Wanderlodges.

The questioned has been asked before but do not recollect an answer to it. Does anyone know how many coaches and of what types were built year to year?

I think it is odd and maybe it is just me, but I seem to see far more 1982~1983 FC's for sale at any given time especially when -82,83 were poorer years economically speaking, especially 1983. Did BB sell more of them then?

My thought is that the economic woes of the times didn't effect those who could plop down nearly $150 grand for a motorhome - only us commoners.
