Default Chains or cables

I was surprised when I backed up my toad and easily snapped the tow cable. I had forgotten to unhook one side and it snapped.
Cable or chain?

My toad is a Chevy S-10

Lucky it didnt pull whatever it was hooked to out of shape/off the s-10. -Maybe yours weren’t rated high enough to really work well in an emergency?

If the ratings are the same, id pick coated cables all day, every day. No noise, rust, and scratches are fewer and farther between. I like the coiled ones that keep themselves off the ground without losing length,

Chains are cheaper and even repairable if a link gets damaged.

My dog has seen better days. Last Sunday we had the blessing of the animals at church. The priest suggested that maybe we should give her the Last Rites instead.
Rosie was not amused.

OK, back to the subject at hand. My current cables are 6’ long. I think that distance is caused by a long hitch adapter that lowers the hitch to level with the truck.

Is this an unusual set up? I’ve always thought that the hitch adapter was the weak link in the chain.
