Default Cracked Exhaust Manifold

Noticed I was only getting about 15 psi max boost and some blue smoke from the tailpipe. Figured I better go look for some exhaust leaks. Found one. Cracked driver side manifold. Any suggestions on where to go for a replacement? $500 on ebay it looks like.

I'd think there might be a possibility of welding this but I don't have the skills and am not interested in paying for the work if I can get a new/quality used one. The labor getting this thing off will be worth the piece of mind knowing I won't have to do it again because of a failed weld.

I would check with a Detroit/MTU dealer. It’s been a few years but mine came from Clarke Detroit Diesel (Now Clarke Power Services) in Cincinnati, Ohio. (The manifolds were brand new - not used).

A “few years ago” turns out to be more like 11 or 12 years ago….

Note: Our engines are mounted backwards so keep in mind that the “right exhaust manifold” goes on the driver’s side of the coach and the “left” exhaust manifold goes on the passenger side of the coach.

I would call detroit and get new studs and nuts too.
Be prepared for the studs to screw out of the head, and when they do you will have coolant coming out of the holes.
A big drain pan will be required.

Caution: That advertisement looks wrong to me - that’s a left exhaust manifold.

Edit: Just to be clear, while 5143916 is the correct number for our Right Bank Exhaust manifold (Driver’s Side), the manifold shown in this eBay listing, is not a 5143916 – it will not work for the driver's side (Right Bank) of our 8V92 Wanderlodge engines.

Hi Jeff,

Yeah, I stared at it for a while before it dawned on me that the ad was not correct.
