Just another day at the auction.

We held another auction today for the University of Louisville, it’s Derby Festival time here in Louisville and there are several events going on which impacts traffic flow & routing. It was raining and traffic was all screwed up due to a marathon and I get this call after the auction was over from this frantic lady wanting to know if we canceled the auction, I told her no and stress to her that she was too late that the auction was already over. Then she wanted to know if we would cancel it and reschedule it for another day due to the rain & traffic conditions, no! I had already told her that the auction was over. The auction started at 9:30 I was there before 8 along with 80 other registered bidders and by the end of the auction we had over 125 bidders. I guess I should have postponed the auction for this one lady, because she needed to feel special.
Then we had a guy who complained that we ran 2 auction rings and he could only bid at one at a time, since he had no one he could trust to place bids for him at the other auction ring. We have been running 2 rings as advertised for over 10 years but I guess next time we need to make him feel special.
Then on a more irritating note we had a guy show up who had been barred from the University 6 years ago, he came in today with a new driver’s license and made it past our registration desk. He started bidding then he started arguing with the acting auctioneer because his bid was not the winning bid. He’s been drinking and was high as all get out, I then noticed who he was, I cancelled all his bids and we called campus security to have him escorted off campus property. As a result of cancelling the bids we had to resale those lots he bid on only to make it fair for the legitimate buyers. It was just another day at the auction.

I tagged along with John and Fran a while back to a city of Louisville auto auction, it was very interesting and some people were very experienced at their bidding and some not so much but it moved along quickly.
