Hi Brian,

Great work and an excellent write up. As I have an SP like yours, I have two questions in case I ever have to do what you have done.

First, what type of pallet jack did you use? I know that another SP owner, who sold his unit a few years ago, used a fork lift to remove the engine to do some work. I always thought I would need a fork lift to do the removal due to the weight of the Cat. Am interested in the type and capacity of yours.

Second, you described the problem you had in removal. See snippet here:

"The problem I had was that the bell housing of the transmission was wider than the vertical engine mounts in the middle of the engine. The middle engine mounts have a vertical "drop" that goes down next to the engine for a cross member to bolt to under the engine. I ended up spreading them apart with a bar and threaded rod. It was used as a spreader to push the mounts apart. Once I had the clearance it rolled out just fine. Lots of messing around to get to that point."

My question, can you describe or show a picture of what you mean by spreading out engine mounts that have a vertical drop. I can not envision this although, I have looked at the pictures a few times.

Thank you for your help.

Alan

The supports that hung up the removal of the engine were only about 1/2 too narrow. I ground about 5/16 off of the engine mounts and it slip right in. To get the top to spread 1/2 inch you need to move the bottom a whole bunch. Once the engine was back in the lower crossmember pulled everything back where it needed to be. On post #2 pics 1 and 2 you can kind of see the pieces I’m talking about. About 1/2 way back under the engine mounts. As far as the pallet jack, it’s got a 4500# capacity. The engine/tranny combo rolled really good on it. When you don’t have a forklift you have to improvise. All in all it worked really well.

Curious

Where did you find the CAC? What's it made of?
Same capacity as original?

The CAC was built by the radiator shop. It’s aluminum. Looks similar to the one it replaced. Same dimensions, they used the top and bottom from the old one.

Woody,we did end up taking one side of the down brackets off to get the engine out.
That was a whirlwind project,a lot was forgotten!

Yep, I would recommend them to anybody. They did my FC radiator, my SP radiator, and the SP CAC. The name is D and B heat transfer. They are just south of Grand Rapids Mi, in Byron Center Mi. Top notch shop wit a 3 day turnaround

Brian,

You said you've been on some trips since the engine pull out.

What kind of boost pressure readings are you seeing with the new CAC?

How about the exhaust gas temps? Do you notice any difference from the old CAC?

These could be a baseline for our SPs.

Thanks
