Default Need new radiator

So our LXi coughed up a valve which blew out through the turbo and the engine also sent metal pieces out and about, some found in the oil pan. Needless to say a new REMAN engine is being ordered from Leeds.

Since the radiator is out and shows sign of wear we are replacing it as well. Anyone know where to get one?

Same advice I posted to your question on FB - have a high volume semi/heavy equipment radiator shop rebuild what you have. They know what it takes to safely cool that expensive reman you’re putting in. My guess is the shop you’re using for the engine work knows all the good rad shops in that area. That’s how I found Cincinnati Radiator who built me both a radiator and a charge air cooler (my old one was leaking in 6 places).

Good luck!
Jim

As mentioned, typically the big shops have a radiator shop they use locally, could ask them. Or, I have used CGJ.com, they are out of Alabama, I sent them my radiator and intercooler for rebuild. Very reasonable, still cheaper to ship to them for repair, than for me locally at the time. That’s where I would start.

Thanks for your help. The estimate was $8000 for just the radiator.

For 8 grand, I’ll come do it for you. Run as fast as you can from that place.

Kirby Radiator in Fort Worth TX is an old style actual Radiator shop. They don’t just replace parts, they rebuild and FIX stuff.

Shipping is probably too expensive but it certainly might be worth your time to at least give them a call.

BTW.
Sorry to hear of the bad luck with the engine. I’m not on FB so this is the first I had heard of your diagnosis. That’s really a bummer

Max.

Agree w Max on price. My newly fabricated radiator, newly fabricated charge air cooler (CAC) plus tested/flushed A/C condenser all totaled $2,803 w 7% sales tax. This also included labor to clean up, weld a small repair and paint the rad/CAC frame AND remount all the components. Cincinnati Radiator does everything up to earth movers, agricultural machinery and industrial power generators so I’m not comparing your quote with some back-yard shop (not that there’s necessarily anything wrong with back-yard shops). There were trucks with jobs from diesel repair shops coming and going the whole time I was there.

With everything already out for the reman install, the incremental labor to R&R the rad/CAC frame shouldn’t be that much. And, yes, I am lucky to have a mobile mechanic who knows who does good work and is willing to make calls for me. I know I’m long winded, but my point is that I’m certain you can do better than $8 grand and still get a quality job!

Keep asking questions! WOG will help the best we can.
Jim

Though I don't own a LXI my understanding of the radiator replacement is this: measure core, order new one, drill holes for top and bottom tanks, install and fill, shouldn't be a big deal
