Caterpillar 3208 Solutions This sub-forum is hosted by Mike Hohnstein who has been at this kind of thing for 50+ years now, guess I'm addicted. The saga has been all about progressively larger shop space since then. Honestly, never wanted to get into the CAT 3208's that were originally considered to be a throwaway engine but that's all that works in a FC in my world. Same thing with my Ford toter, that came with a NA, too much effort to hang in a 6, so been at it with the CAT V-8 for 20 years now. In reality you can get excellent life out of a CAT 3208 if it's built correctly. Post your questions about the CAT 3208 engines here and Mike will try to help you out.

Way to go! Living in Florida I do work in whites in the summer when I am outside. The greasy clothes go right to the washer when I am done. Pakistani truck channel is a hoot. They pull them apart to the frame, then pull the frame apart rivet by rivet. Then they take a 1/2 ton slab of frame on a motorcycle (I am not joking) to a shop to straighten. Then it goes back together for a few years. It's about all those old Russian trucks last there. I got to visit Karachi once and the roads are terrible.

Thanks for the pics tom!
Make sure you put those oven mitts back where you got them!

Can't say heating a two part component based on rubber bonding is the wisest move for installation purposes. You'll be the first to know:

Has anyone ever used the rebuild service and how much does a 3208 balancer weigh?

34 lbs. without the 4 extra bolt on pulleys.

I looked over his site, per WOG recommendation. I have no reason to doubt his abilities. BUT: With shipping/packing/insurance both ways, the wear on the back of my balancer, and the fact that I was doing this job in the “closed month” for them(equaling a very long wait). It wasn’t the best solution for me.

And the local cat company treats me pretty well w/free parts shuffling

Same here.

I think the guy offers a good warranty to top it off.

If anyone wants to try him out without having downtime on their coach, I have my old balancer make me a offer I can ship it directly to him and he can ship it to you, maybe save a few bucks on shipping.

FWIW Dale industries only does balancers up to 23 lbs. (Dale is 72 and 23lbs is all he feels like) Very nice guy. Been doing it since 1978. The other 2 possibilities are Damper Dudes & Damper Doctor - both out of California

Damper Doctor will do 3208 Balancer for $390 (3yr warranty) takes about a week estimates $21 shipping each way. Damper Dudes doesn't do "Industrial" any more (I think mostly new imported units)
Does anyone have a price on a recent Cat part?

$414 + $248 deposit for the HB, 10R-0715
$17.44 for the seal, 7C-6660

Got the seal and balancer installed yesterday. Went on easy enough at ambient temp. (There was a bit more tightening and new bolt happening that missed the video.)
