Does anyone know how to get access to the brake tredle valve for replacement on a 1987 PT40? Is it through the floor? The front panel opening does not seem to allow any room for tools to get in. Is there an access panel under the carpet?

Tell why you want to change the treadle valve? If you have a leak it could be feedback. I have changed very few complete vlaves in over 40 years of heavy duty truck repair. You can however remove and replace just the spool valve. This is generally done by removing the pedal axle up top, and removing the spool valve from the cavity. It will come up into the driver's footwell. Install the new one in the reverse order, lube the pedal axle and the roller under the pedal and you should be all set-that is if it was not feedback from another air unit feeding up to that foot vlave. Most leaks that are related to the spool will show air leaking at the release port. This is the umbrella looking rubber flapper on the under side of the foot valve. Douse it with soapy water. A really bad leak may be too fast to make bubbles but you should be able to hear that one.

Thanks guys, I will relpace the spool and see if that works. The valve is leaking massive amouts of air when braking. Also, when this happens the breaks grab and everyone in the coach gets wisked up front to vist the driver. This needs to stop.

It could be a loose fitting or cracked liine at the valve. Make sure you don't have a bad wheel seal. A drip of grease out of a drum or on the inside of a tire is the way to tell. The grease combinies with the brake dust to form a paste-like goo that will lock up a wheel.-Rick in Ohio

The valve under the brake pedal is leaking air at the bottom where their is a rubber flap? Can't see too good, but soppey water showed up a few leaks, the other gauge holds pressure over night at least. Is this called a foot valve and how do you repair or replace it with out cutting the front of the bus off??? Any pictures or has anyone have a repair doc?

get a new foot valve.
Take the treadle off the old one, while still in the bus. Take the guts out of the new one and put in the old one, still in the bus.

I have the top off the E6 dual brake valve so now how do I remove the spool valve ?
It leaks at the rubber seal at the bottom and one air gage holds pressure and one drops within 5 min. Also the shredder(SP) valves in the wet tank, are they replace with just a new insert (mine is stuck) or the complete valve?
