Default Stranded in Miami

Stuck in Miami with a coach that wont crank to start, when it was running showed the alt/charger amp gauge at zerro even though the volt meter shows 13.7. Oh yes, transmission started flashing at me on the seven mile bridge, lost top gear but was able to get to the rv park in Homestead. Yesterday had Detroit Diesel out here and he jumped us to start but was to fat to crawl under to look for bad ground or a loose starter cable. Had to wait till today to get in and now it won't start with a jump and the charger. Any idea who to contact in Miami area to help get us going? the jump yesterday cost me $600........and so it goes! 1989 wb pusher40' Paul and Sharon Shuster

Check for good voltage at the batteries, check for a good clean connections at the starter would be my first step

batteries, battery connections, starter ground, & maybe alternator or chargers not recharging batteries. get out the voltmeter these are the places to start to find the problem, then we can go further.

Paul, if you have not changed the Front/Rear switch inside the rear engine bay, that would be a good place to start. http://www.colehersee.com/home/item/cat/34/551846/

Also check ALL the 12 Volt grounds including alternators, starter, DDEC II/ATEC GROUND and don't forget the 12 Volt battery banks.

Will the generator start?? Use it to charge the battery bank. While that's going on check the connections the others have suggested.

Since you are at an RV park I assume you have shore power? I don't know if you have separate house and start batteries but, if you do, insure your charger is working and charging both banks. Many coaches have a switch to combine the house and starter batteries for charging.

Use a decent hand held volt meter and check charging voltage at the batteries.

Any chance the A/T (anti theft) switch at the dash is open?

Thanks all for the help. First, i'm to old and fat to get under the coach so need someone else to check the starter ground. I have shore power and the batteries are charged full. The starter was neww several weeks ago and could be the prime problem along with the alt which quit the same time the trans mission started talking to me. No amp guage, its on the bench at home. sigh! A/T is correct as well. cheers!

Brian Altier had some issue similar to that and it was the relay in the bedroom behind the wall on the left rear corner of the coach. Maybe someone else can remember better than I, it had something to do with the DDECI if I recall. Maybe, maybe not

Well...it still could be something else but we pulled all the batteries and they were all totally shot. New ones coming today or tomorrow but I would like to remind people to pay attention to Randy who posted when I first had problems.. "replace the Batteries"!!
Thanks all, Oldred
