Caterpillar 3208 Solutions This sub-forum is hosted by Mike Hohnstein who has been at this kind of thing for 50+ years now, guess I'm addicted. The saga has been all about progressively larger shop space since then. Honestly, never wanted to get into the CAT 3208's that were originally considered to be a throwaway engine but that's all that works in a FC in my world. Same thing with my Ford toter, that came with a NA, too much effort to hang in a 6, so been at it with the CAT V-8 for 20 years now. In reality you can get excellent life out of a CAT 3208 if it's built correctly. Post your questions about the CAT 3208 engines here and Mike will try to help you out.

Maiden voyage by Dupree last spring, ran OK but CAC too small so got a larger one built and it's installed, taken a couple check out runs so far, gets right up to 80+ but still a bit hot on the EGT. Bus has been sitting last 6mos unattended due to the fact we were sequestered in Idaho due to weather caused delays affecting the new building project. In WI now, modifying the grille to fit over the new CAC, I think/hope it's all good for now.
Plan on doing a repower on the 31 FC starting in June, another saga.

Had time to fire up one more on the test stand, like I say busy day, went well.
I should interject the bus is real hard to push, 4 of us had a tussle getting it shoved back 8' to swing the engine cart out, no wonder they can be slow and hard on fuel.

Wow mike, this is sick work, can you come help me, I need a motor swap between a sick bird and a vogue, both 3208 same tranny maybe swap entire things around?

Id start looking for shops in that area and start saving the $. This wont be cheap even if you are able to do some of the work. Perhaps one of the west coast members know of someone or place that can help with this job.

Mike has the advantage of having 15 young employees to help back at the shop, hes the quarterback on the job,he calls the plays and lets the youngsters run the ball.
Good luck on getting him out of the shop!

I guess the other option is to freight the bird over with the donor motor and even the tranny, but will have to look at freight options from Ontario to there.

and once its all done drive bird back to CA, an idea?
