Default Should I tow this

Hi guys.. I have an 84 PT40 and would like to tow something.. I'm contemplating towing my 20 silverado, but i'm worried about the weight and not having enough power with the 6V92... I was also thinking about buying like an older cherokee or something that I would care less about... However I need another vehicle like I need a hole in the head... Thoughts??

Unhappy Toad

That would not necessarily end well. I have a brand new F-150 and M380 now in the shop because even with braking system and all the bells and whistles, I made a stop at red light and tow bar snapped and truck impacted rear of M-380. I am now toing a Jeppe 2 door wrangler, much more manageable.

My 86PT has the 6v, and I've towed my mid 90's F150 using a tow dolly with no issues. Don't really notice it's there. I now tow a Jeep Liberty only because my son took over the truck and moved out of state.

Tell us more.
Tell us about the tow bar, brand and size.
Do you need any body parts?

What kind of braking system?
Was it a panic stop or just an average stop?

Default M380 F-150 mating

Randy

All Blue OX, 10K tow Bar, Blue OX braking system etc. The connection point on Blue ox for the 2 tow arms snapped .

It was a moderate breaking stop. But with the system it should have been no big deal.

I guess the lesson is when it comes to Toads, smaller is better.

I won't ever tow a big toad again.

That's kinda what I was thinkin... Plus I'd have to buy fancier base plates and tow bar for the truck where with the jeep everything would be less expensive plus it would weigh alot less

With the newer all aluminum trucks like the F150s, not sure how much of a weight difference there is anymore compared to a Jeep? Plus, will 500 to 1000 pounds make that much difference to a 40000 plus pound coach?

Default M-380 2020 F-150 mating

Well it is all about F=MA, But the weight difference between the Wrangler JK I have now and the truck is about 2300 lbs. The M-380 wasn't the problem, it will tow anything, it was the impact to the rear from the truck that hurt. The M-380 stopped it just fine. The question is was it worth 26K in repairs to tow the truck.
