Default Unusual Rear Engined 'Bird

Hey, kids...

Wife and I are actively "bird watching" and we found this '72 with a funky A/C unit or something on the back. There's also a major exhaust "riser" to the left side of the back. I haven't seen either of these on any other birds in the lot. Can anyone smarter than me elaborate on the what and the whys? Thanks a mill.

Well it might be a flux capacitor

Darned if I know but can't wait to find out. Strange looking ugly appendage what ever it's for it better do something special because it looks like a horses back side that's for sure.

Default To quote the salesman

Well, here's exactly what the salesman quoted to me, "When Bluebird changed the eng, they added the body work at the rear. The cooling on the 3208/ 6V92 was always an issue on any of these style bus bodies, in my opinion this box allows much better cooling."

And, if I have to steal plutonium from the Lebanese to get the 1.26 jigga watts, the flux capacitor might be what we're looking at for certain.

Yeah...cooling is definitely an issue when you have no means for flow through the radiator up front. There is no grill up front now - just solid metal (or something) in the grill area. Someone did some seriously weird stuff to that Bird. Wouldn't touch that one if you paid me!

I'd be utterly shocked if Bluebird had anything at all to do with that abortion of an engine change.

Could this be an FC re-powered with the engine in the rear?

That really looks to be the case. Its definitely not a BB modification. Note that the ad says it has a DT 466. Almost looks like a snorkel for crossing deep water.... Its sad, why would anyone do this to a Wanderlodge........

Very odd indeed. Kind of reminds me of a Chuckwagon with a stove on the back to cook up your favorite pot of beans!

Are we looking at another proto-type? With a mod on the back done up later?

It doesn't look like there is a proper FC doghouse up front. There is a doghouse but a weird shape. Hard to tell with these pics.
