Had one on a 89 KW. It had a 2 cyl Kubota engine and did a decent job of cooling and heating that rig but I could not sleep with it running. Without that 425 hp 3406 Cat purring, I always felt something was wrong. Of course this was before the no idle rules and fuel was still less than a dollar a gallon. I guess I would have to have one today if I still had a job.

Interesting that they are making them with generator heads now (rigmaster/thermoking)...you may still have the problem of not being able to decide when the run and when they don't. As I mentioned we had one of each of those units and they were auto start/stop only...no manual option. Again, if weight isn't an issue (like it is on big semis) I wouldn't even think about one of these when you could buy a new onan self contained unit for the same price or maybe even less. I've had three of those units and they have been awesome and very very quiet with very little vibration. The thermo king and rigmasters will almost shake your fillings out when they start/stop. And the rigmaster is quite loud.

I've been half following this thread and thinking about how we make power and alternatives to noisy generators.

In addition to alternative methods covered here, I just came across an article on a new type of wind turbine that is reported to generate 600 times more power than current methods. Just looking at it made me think about mounting a small one to the top of the coach. ....

Maybe not tomorrow but this, if refined might have possibilities down the road (pun intended).

What do you think ? Crazy?

Last I heard the designer of that wind contraption was still refusing to let independent observers do any testing on it, general consensus of the smart guys in the biz is that its nothing but a way to fleece the rubes.
