I ordered a replacement idler pully for my Perkins but was later told they couldn't find one. It was 40 or 50 dollars as I remember. So I did a bit of searching and came up with one for $8.50. It is for a lawnmower. I figure if it will withstand the riggors of a mowing machine it will work on the Perkins. I installed it today and it seems perfect.

gardner, save the old pulley and just replace the bearing, you can get it at NAPA,its a standard alternator bearing, keep it in the coach as a spare.

Randy,
That sounds like a good idea. I have a habit of not throwing old parts away, I always seem to need them somewhere along the way. Gardner

Gardner, Check it often, as I wonder if the mower application will match the rpm's of the Perkins, but then again I could be totally wrong. Since the only thing that shows up in my Perkins Parts Manual is an alternator or a generator, that would adjust the belt tension, most likely the idler pulley was a Bluebird part and not a Perkins part.

Jim,
I'm going to guess that your generator has a Perkins engine and if it does, could you please give us the make and part number for the idler pulleys bearing that you replaced, mine is getting a little noisy and I will need to replace it soon. Thanks,

John:
Yes. My Generator is a Kohler 12.5. Here's the bearing number for the idler. It uses (1) ***#6203.2RSR.C3 radial deep grove ball bearing.

Just a thought, but since the generator does not have any sort of charging in itself, I replaced my idler pulley with a small alternator off of a fork lift. Now it charges itself when running and I do not have to worry about the generator system. Works great.

Do you have the manufacturer name and part number for the small alternator, there may be others that would be interested in doing the same thing, also a new V-belt part number if you had to change that too.

Although I recently changed the Idler pully on my generator, when the new alternator failed on the bus a few months ago, I only had one 3 stage 80 amp charger to fall back on. That wasn't enough to keep the batteries charged at night, while running the lights. At that time I had wished I installed an alternator on the Gen.I have a few Delco Remy's here to chose from... 45 amp-80 amp, and my thought was to install the 80 amp. The question I have is..under full load the 80 amp could take 15 or so HP to turn, and will that be too much to maintain the nessessary RPMS to get 60 cycles?
Also, I'd want to bypass the diode going to the main batteries, if needed, to assist in charging along with my current 80 amp charger, so I won't have to hold the aux button down on the dash. Any thoughts?

Jim,
My guess is that you are unlikley to load the generator that much and an 80 amp alternator would not crash the system. I assume you have the 12.5 KW perkins/Kohler like I have. I guess if I ran all three Cruisairs, the refrigerator, ice maker, charger, and whatever I might just reach 9 or 10 KW. But with the 80 amp alternator, why run the charger at the same time?
