Default BMC Front Air Conditioner

My front air conditioner (or the Thermostat ) on my 95 BMC is no longer working. The last time I used it when the fan was set for high (where I always kept it) it would not come on. When I moved the fan lever to Medium it came on, so I tried again on high and this time it came on. Now it doesn't come on on high, med, low or auto. the Green lights come on and if I switch it to heat, that part works. Does this soud like a Thermostat problem or an air Conditioner problem? Any suggestions on where to start? I understand these thermostats on the old BMCs are different and they are hard to replace.

Thans for any ideas and how to proceed.

Try sliding the fan switch back and forth many times as it may just be dirty from dust.

You could also take it off the wall and get some CRC electronics cleaner from WalMart in the automotive section and spray into it while sliding the control to wipe it out.

Lee try taking the ceiling grill off and there is a flat multi conductor cable that plugs from coach to A/C I believe. Leon showed it to me once as a possible spot for such troubleshooting, check of loose connection. Other than that I have no other suggestions. Your 12 volt master is on isn't it? You might call or e-mail Leon and he could have a suggestion. Good luck

X2 on that suggestion. Our front air is sometimes flaky even though the rooftop unit and tstat have been replaced by prior owner. Flat connector is where the problem is on ours. I've cleaned and wiggled, next is to replace it.

Default BMC Front Air

OK, I tried that stuff with no luck. There is a 4 wire connector up in the ceiling part but it is not flat, it is a translucent white plug (sort of square) that plugs in the unit. I unplugged and sprayed that. There are no plugs in the thermostat (however i did not unscrew the circuit board so there may be one behind that, but if so it would be pretty thin) I did spray the fan switch while moving it up and down but still nothing. The green lights on the thermostat come on but nothing happens when it is set for "Cool" The "heat" still works.

Any other ideas?

If this is an original twenty plus year old you're over due. Screw off the old one and screw in a new one avoid the rush. Leon out there in Ship Indiana is the guy to see on this air conditioner stuff if you plan to be in that neck of the woods. Could be something simple but if your anything like me it almost never is.

Lee, in my notes PO had similar issue, from receipt says "rear a/c sometimes cool sometimes does not cycle correctly". Not exactly your symptoms but here was the cure in case you figure out it is the control board:

Dometic p/n's:
3109226005 Control Kit
3109228001 Comfort Control (new wall thermostat)
3106986007 Adapter Kit A/C

Basically it seems like they replaced the "computer/circuit board" and the wall thermostat.

Default BMC Air

For some reason I remember somone telling me that these old BMC air conditioner Thermostats coulld not be replaced as these were no longer available and that you had to replace the whole system from the air conditioner back to the thermostat. Maybe one of you guys know somewthing about that issue?

I will check on a new circuit board.

Lee, I don't know if you know Leon or not, but a phone call might be helpful. http://fixyourfridge.com/ He might be able to walk you through some self diagnosing on the phone.

Default BMC Air

Here is th eonly post I can find about replacing these old thermostats (Dometic apparently does not have any that work anymore)

http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/**...print/true.cfm

Looks pretty complicated so I want to make sure that is the problem first before getting into a project like this.
