Nope. I'm listening!

I've used a trailer where you put the whole car on it. That was fine. Don't think I want all of that with me at campgrounds though, a dolly seems much easier to keep out of the way.

A dolly and a hauler are a lot different. I have a custom made hauler for my 1 ton van that must weight 2 tons. A dolly, weighs less. I can back up my hauler, you may back up a dolly 5-6 feet before the axle on the dolly does whatever direction it wants. It all depends on what you want to haul. If I was a rich dude- I'd tow 4 down. So you can see where my financial status is.

A tow dolly is required when the car is really important for some reason, examples are it's your favorite car, or the vehicle is required for a business etc.
the dolly can not be backed up , same issue as a four down toad.
Therefore the dolly still needs stored move around by a strong young person or attached to the car and backed up & moved around.
Dollies are usually less expensive than a tow bar, and braking system and lights. So the car / dolly , or four down toad are also financial decisions.
Bottom line, Dollies are a real nuisance ,
Bill's 2 cents.

I don't have a favorite car, otherwise I'd do 4 down (already have the tow bar for the Bird). I have too many cars and not sure what I'd want to take with me, my truck, one of the cars, etc. And I can't back a regular trailer up either unfortunately, so that doesn't make the dolly a con for me. If I tow my pickup, it will move the dolly around for me too!

I've done it all twice, open and closed trailers, dolly and 4 down. 4 down for me, however have seen some dollys w/cargo platforms to haul a two wheeler or 'stuff'.

I actually like my tow dolly. It's useful, because it gives me the ability to tow more than one specific vehicle.

This looks like a good price if it's not too far:

You might also check with your local rental places like U-haul. Sometimes they sell equipment.
