Caterpillar 3208 Solutions This sub-forum is hosted by Mike Hohnstein who has been at this kind of thing for 50+ years now, guess I'm addicted. The saga has been all about progressively larger shop space since then. Honestly, never wanted to get into the CAT 3208's that were originally considered to be a throwaway engine but that's all that works in a FC in my world. Same thing with my Ford toter, that came with a NA, too much effort to hang in a 6, so been at it with the CAT V-8 for 20 years now. In reality you can get excellent life out of a CAT 3208 if it's built correctly. Post your questions about the CAT 3208 engines here and Mike will try to help you out.

Specify 3 ring pistons, oem only has 2, that's all you can do.

10 years ago when I did mine, Reviva, NA, 3 ring piston, $6000 delivered anywhere in the USA. I had it delivered to Pt Roberts Wa. I picked it up there, and dropped the core off there. $1500 core charge.

https://www.reviva.com/diesel-engine...-diesel-engine

Bought a turbo engine thru local dealer in 05, cost 6k. Injection pump was a problem, quit running @ 4k miles 900 miles from home, however had an interesting interaction with the repair facility in PA, only cost about 5 grand to get fixed after all was said and done. Cat was brutal with their prices. Your results may vary, however there's very few options and I'd probably use Reviva again if I had to.

Checked with local distributor, $9250 dyno'd drop in non turbo engine, long blocks aren't supplied anymore. Sorry I can't help more, but need to get this house/property sold on the river in Idaho, keeps me out of the shop for now.

AAA bus sales in Phoenix might be able to help. When I had my 78 in for service there was a 73 fc getting a transplant. Tony the owner is a bus nut and they have quite an inventory of used parts and Skoolies. 602-278-9339.
