Golf cart batteries for me. It's been four years for me and NO problems. I am going to replace mine this spring when I do the radiator project just due to the age and they are starting to require some water now. Get a automatic watering system as well. Checking the water other wise is a major project. Seems like the AMG's would have to last dependably almost 5 times as long to justify the cost. I thought they were twice the money not 5 times what gives there? Am I misunderstanding something?

No David, I just didn't realize that they where THAT expensive. Maybe it's size related. I've got six golf cart batteries and to replace them with AGM's at twice the money might be worth considering (and it was my understanding that two times the money would do it) but if it was $450 or better per that would be a different story. Only interested in the money not the pluses or minus's

Can't beat this package for the money, batteries and a watering system for about $650.00 for a package of 6 batteries. Smart charger(s) are a must too

I did a quick online search and found $600 for the Lifeline GPL-4D (12V) and $300 for the GPL-4C (6V). I don't want to quote prices for Truk4u, but I paid Trans-Specialists $450 for the GPL-4D, so it would stand to reason that the GPL-4C (6V) would be around half this price or approximately $225. I see that the Costco deep discharge 6V is around $80, plus $27 per battery for watering, so that would be 2.1 times the cost to get the AGM GPL-4C (6V). We don't need to split hairs so call it 2x. |

I don't even argue about them anymore. AGMs vs Lead Acid will always be there as a Chevy vs Ford problem. SO.. what I do is just state some FACTS and let the end user decide for themselves;
1) Typically lead acid will be the best solution all around when ALL THINGS are considered. Even if you do a $ per year analysis with equal care to the batteries, you cannot beat a lead acid. 2) AGM's do outperform lead acid BUT require care as they are NOT immune to to improper care & charging. AGM's are VERY susceptible to over charging and can be damaged easily! Sure you can set your smart charger for proper charges (14.38v bulk & 13.38v float) but make sure your alternator never goes above that bulk rate. Most factory set chargers and alternators are set to 14.3-14.7v and that is too much for AGM. 3) You should not ever connect AGM to any other battery type due to differences in batteries. So do not use solenoids to jumper them to other dissimilar banks. 4) NEVER equalize an AGM battery. 5) IF you want the best performance & IF money is no object & IF you know the proper way to charge them, THEN AGMs are the battery for you. ![]()

BTW, the online price for the Deka 8AGC2 AGM 6V 220AH battery is $225. I'm sure with some shopping around it can be found at a better price. Deka AGM's are very good batteries.
