Default The End of BMC Life

First off I want thank Randy, Lee D, Tim R, Ed B, and Sam A for their help in trying to get a better settlement from the insurance co, Nationwide Ins., affiliate Depositors, Ins. Co…. Which used a third party company that does the evaluating on the cost of the insured vehicles, which I found out that that co, CCC, used NADA guides for valuation…
After I sent in the upgrades and new items we put in that did not up the totaled price, so I got in contact with the Financial service of FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF FINANCIAL SERVICES • DIVISION OF CONSUMER SERVICES and had them get in touch with the ins. Co and they did do us good, The Ins. Co. did increase the final settlement, it wasn’t what we wanted, but was better than what the Ins, co. was going to settle for… I could have gone further with the fight, but there was a clause in the contract, that we would have to get an appraiser and they would get one and an arbitrator would decide, but with the untimely death of John McGinnis’s, may he rest in peace, there are no appraisers whom appraise Bluebirds, so we did not want to go through that and wait another 6 months, so we settled…
We finally received the totaled amount that the insurance company thought the bus was worth… So am able to disclose this to everyone, though a few people has known about this incident and I did not want to post it until we received the monies from the ins…

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS CO. TO INSURE A BLUEBIRD, PERIOD!!!

On 10/11/2021, while returning from the state of Washington to Yuma, In the town of Wikieup, AZ oh AZ 93 the Bus shut down, no power, no electric, nothing… Coasted to the side of the road and put on brake… Went out and saw smoke coming out the vents, went back inside, got a fire extinguisher and opened bay door, and found smoke coming from battery bay, opened and all the house batts were on fire, terminals melted into the case all wiring going to inverter and engine bay all melted, probably up to the front of the bus…

Being that we live aboard I had to get another RV ASAP, so I went out and bought an SOB, a model I am familiar with as I had owned one prior to my FC… Downsized to a Safari Trek 2830…

Here is a list of items we updated on the bus in the past year and a half…
24” smart TV, replaced CRT TV
New Trucker air ride seats driver and copilot
All new window sills, molding and shades
Wood planking put on all walls of salon and kitchen
Two new wall hugger recliners from Lamberts furniture in Shipshewana IN
2” maple butcher block counter top for dining area imported from Canada
2 36” wall cabinets under butcher block counter

All these items updated in the past 3 years

Dang Larry; sorry to hear about your bus but glad you reached some level of settlement.
What was the origin of the fire ?
Hopefully we will see you two in Shipshewana.

Larry...

I am very sorry to hear of the issues involving your Bird. Your enthusiasm of ownership was prevalent in your posts. The information of your Bluebird experience will continue to be helpful. Bird or not, I still look forward to meeting you on the road. Continued safe travels.

Timothy

Paul,
The only thing I could think of was a direct short to ground, after thinking about this for sometime now, I did have an issue with a failure to start and had to be towed to a Cummins shop in Eugene OR, they replaced the starter, and cable to the batteries, and that is the only thing that comes to mind, as I have not had any other electrical work done on the bus, this was done about three years ago, so maybe it took all this time to wear through, if they did not tie things up very well, who knows!!!
Maybe I never know sometimes, but we will see about Ships...
