I've been looking........unsuccessfully.....for a Jeep XJ to replace my jeep TJ. Last week I came across a 04 jeep TJ that I couldn't resist. So I guess I'll stick with the TJ's. Not set up for towing I'm looking for an aftermarket front bumper, planning on using bolt on tow bar adapters rather than shelling out over 400 bucks for a Blue Ox baseplate. Any bumper ideas?
I've been in the other... two bird club and this one is much more enjoyable! ![]()

Kip, I've been using this setup on my Jeep TJ for 17 years with no issues, bolts to frame under stock or aftermarket bumper..simple and reliable. https://www.rustysoffroad.com/currie...kit-tj-lj.html

Kip back to your original question about aftermarket bumpers, I'm currently researching options to set up my JT for flat towing. Looks like smitybilt LOD and Rockhard sell bumpers that you can directly attach to. For example, Rockhard sells brackets depending on tow bar manufacturer that bolt right to the bumper:. https://www.rockhard4x4.com/product_p/rh-4010.htm

They get a lot of money for those bumpers.

Yep, but just the frame brackets aren't cheap either that I looked at, about half what a whole bumper costs. So if you are thinking of replacing your bumper anyway, may as well consider the ones you can directly attach tow brackets to costing under $100, versus frame brackets costing 4-5 times that. The aftermarket stuff is quite the profitable racket!

Regardless of what the bumper manufactures tell you about their bumper. Mopar does not recommend (in fact they say do not) towing from a bumper only attached to the front frame horns. if you going to do that I would recommend you also add a set of these to your set up.
