It was a good progress week (for the bus - less so at work therefore)
1. Replaced all roof vents (front main, bathroom and kitchen with Maxxair - wow) - see picture
2. Built the dinette base (PO removed?) and sewed up some new covers (see pics)
3. Rewired the AC switches (new) and added independent power relay (see separate post)
4. Discovered (finally) radiator shot on Gen - one being built (see post and pics) - this was after using Thermocure.. turns rust to fluid..
5. Replacing DS and PS seats and building bases - cleaned up the DS floor (see pic)
6. Narrowed down root cause for steering to the gear drive (will be attempting an adjustment) - thanks to all those helpful posts
7. Received the switch so I can fix the search light
8. Fixed up some wiring for the dash lights
9. Powerwashed the underside - looking for leaks (power steering and ready to change fluids)
10. Have pictures off to safe T steer to get fitted for a dampner
11. Repaired the couch bed frame which was cracked
12. Replaced the non-functional microwave (see pic)
Safe T Steer will install free if you come to them. They will also install KONI shocks free. Their not that far from Pine Mountain

@RotaryJohn
Pine Mountain Texas? I looked on website and don’t recall anything in the general area.
I have been exchanging messages with them to ensure right parts.
Is it better to buy direct or via another channel?

Install seems pretty simple.. just a larger dampener.. most technical part is alignment.. Am I missing something?

Do you know what color the Koni shocks are?

Thanks

You missed the state by a country mile.
Georgia is where the rally is.

@Randy,
You should have seen the true before pics of the floor.. it was bad.. I may have to go back and find them.

I did the dynamat all the way up (pic was not final) and then put plywood floor back in..

I plan to add boom mat over it.. then a “horse” mat I had laying around..
Vinyl floor will run to end of plywood then under my feet will be the boom mat plus the “horse” mat.. the horse mat is that dense black material that you put in back of a horse trailer.. super heavy and dense.. clearly overkill.. but didn’t want to vinyl that area and I can just pop out for service.. heavy enough to not shift while driving..

Will update with pics once I get that far along.

Default FC step

I have spent the last 2 days fighting with the air step. First it would not retract-not a serious problem, but then it retracted and would not extend. I went through the schematics and found the 4 relays and they were all good. Underneath, both limit switches were deceased, so I replaced both with a different type switch complete with new brackets. Removed the shuttle valve and disassembled and cleaned-O rings were ok. Voltage readings were odd. I had voltage on the coil but no current flow. Thought about grounds, but the assembly is firmly bolted to the frame-no way it could be insulated... This morning added a ground from the air dryer to the bolt holding the shuttle valve on-air dryer bolt was clean and easy to get to. Now it works perfectly, including the dash indicator light. Should have used Randy's logic-"90% of electrical problems are bad grounds." If I had started out there I would have fixed it the same day rather than three days later.

Got one side of the drive axle lubed, and changed out the shock while I was there. The old shock, had no shock left in it. And wow, those nylon bushing nuts that hold the shocks on are no joke. I had to use the torque multiplier on the top one. But it is changed out.

Repositioned the jack stands and got the axle up a bit for a little more room underneath. Going to pull the AD9 air dryer out and service it, and change the drive axle oil before I head to the other side to do that shock and lube the break fittings. So if you don't hear from me, the AD9 crushed me. I request a Viking burial but use the bus instead of a ship.

Thanks but we'll have to wait for the Viking funeral. AD-9 removed, rebuilt, replaced with no issues. Didn't even have any leaks. But boy that old desiccant cartridge was heavy. It was time to swap that and the purge valve out. Hopefully I can get 5 more years out of this one. Getting late though so axle oil tomorrow.

Removed the driver's side wheel today by myself. I weigh a grand total of 125 lbs., so needless to say, it was a challenge. Nuts were originally set at 450 foot pounds but it took more like 700 to get those left-handed nuts loose.

Had a 5 foot torque wrench, not enough. Had to put a 5 foot steel tube on the end of the 5 foot torque wrench to get them loose. A large strong guy may have been able to get them loose with just the torque wrench, I could not.

Got it back on and set the torque at 475 lbs., and that I could do with just the torque wrench.

It's not a big deal but now I can say that I have actually gone through the process.
