Default Connect your Droid to your computer

Just to make all aware that your Droid cell phone can now be connected to your computer to provide great internet service wherever your cell phone service is available. Use the link below to download the application. There is a 14 day free trial and a one time $30 cost if you want to use it beyond the free trial period.
This does not add to your phone usage minutes.
You will also need a USB tether to connect your phone to your cmputer or you can connect using Bluetooth if your computer has that function.

Chuck,

I believe you still need a "data plan" from your carrier. Is this true?

I would be very surprised if you didn't need a data plan. I checked last week and with my carrier I need both the 15.00 phone plan plus a 30.00 data plan for computer use to switch to a Droid.
Presently I have a Sprint Windows based Palm which gives me unlimited high speed data for 15.00 per month (12.00 with the LEO discount). A simple software program (one time 20.00 cost) turns the phone into a WiFi hot spot for up to 5 computers and the 3G speed is only slightly slower than a cable modem. No wires necessary. This is too good a deal to change from.

My brother was doing that over our July 4th trip to New England and Canada. Worked great. Soon as my contract with AT&T runs out I am switching to sprint or verizon. They are talking and have been for some time about doing this with the I phone but it hasn't happened yet. It's a great deal for people like myself who need this for limited amounts of time. And depending on the plan cost it might also work well for the full timers. I think Finn is doing something similar if not mistaken.

Hi David,

Data Plan is required with the Droid like the iphone, You can get a limited plan for $15 or an unlimited plan for $30/ month. Yes, you must have a data plan to use the browser on the Droid. We're way up in the back woods of Washington near the Canadian border and the connection works great.....

I'm using PDANet (the software in the first message) with the Android Incredible with Verizon. You have to have a data plan to use the Android, about $30 on top of whatever voice plan you have. HOWEVER it is possible to tether the Droid with the above mentioned software without paying the additional $25 on top of that that Verizon wants.

Shhhh, don't tell the people in the Verizon store when you buy your phone.

No jail breaking required.

John,

I'm doing something entirely different for here at the homebase, I'm adding a Cradlepoint MBR1000 Mobile Broadband 'N' Router | 3G/4G Wireless Router to my shop so I can use my Verizon aircard plugged into it and then I can use the laptop in the 'Bird by Wi-Fi and the PC in my shops office through an Ethernet cable hardwired to the router. When I head back out on the road, I'll just use the Verizon aircard and external roof mounted antenna for the laptop, that has worked for me all the way to Calif. and up into Montana and Maine.
