Default Rocker Switches. KISS Everyone needs some sometimes

When something goes wrong, check the simple stuff first. Rocker Switches are going to start failing on many of our coaches. So prepare yourself with spares.

Well let me tell a story of what I did. On the entry door the electric lock/unlock started to intermitted stop working. Some days it would work, and others not. So, removed panels on door to get to the door lock actuator. Check for power, I have power 13.6v on all buttons. Also when toggling the rock switches I hear the relays (K10&K11) working out in front where all my relays are. Now here goes stupid. Search WOG and find part number then order from Amazon. Two days later I installed new actuator and still does not work.

Now tracing wires from around the corner of door and looking for a broken wire via continuity. Found nothing. Frustrated now to the point of calling Coachnet, LOL just kidding. But then I had bright idea. Take the old actuator and two wire to the batteries and hot wire it to see if it works or not. Well it did work perfectly. So back to the door again checking for voltage, and still get 13.6v with the rocker switches. Wife comes home and it’s time to quit.

After supper, and still frustrated, I removed the panel holding the rocker switches which is right beside the entry door. I now see the back of the switches, and all looks good. Grab needle nose pliers to pull off wires in order to use another switch right below to check to be sure it was not the switch. Well as soon as I grabbed one wire and wiggled I noticed the male spade part of the switch was loose and then the door lock worked again. Found the problem finally, it’s the rocker switch. But, But, But I have 13.6v???????

So the moral of the story. Always go to the easy things first. Don’t always count on having voltage means it should be working, it needs amps to work. Like starting batteries, sure they register 13.3v with no input, but can they put out the amps to start the engine? That is where a battery checker comes in handy.

Please you electric gurus share how to check for amperage on a 12v systems.

Here is a place to pick up some extra rockers and many other electrical items.

Sean easy way to check read voltage at the same time you are functioning switch, , another way of saying check voltage when it is under load . Remember volt meters only need milli amps to work.

Stephen,

Do you have MOM-OFF-MOM in a DPDT matching switch? If so, I want four.
