do ot eat a green one!!
Holy cow, those things will make you pucker up! I grew up around wild ones (persimmons!) and the old trick was to get someone to take a bite of a green one,you only did that once! Wild ones are small, not as big as a golf ball. I have seen some as big as a tennis ball, but they did not grow wild.

I used to have 15 acres of blueberries in NJ, way back. Someplace I have a pic of my late X wife with our first kid on her hip out in a field. Kid was about 8 months old and had been stuffing her face with blueberries behind my X wife's back, She was purple. It's such a nice picture. Blueberry pie is the shiznitzs. Due to my wife condition, her doctor just ordered her to change almost her entire diet. Not quite vegan, but she has to cut out so much that makes life good. I feel for her. Me, I have to eat out a lot now. Don't know what I can rustle up for the WOG. Have to see. She won't be at a lot of the get together's I am afraid because they revolve around food.

From http://uncommonfruit.cias.wisc.edu/american-persimmon/
American persimmon are high in soluble tannins until they are thoroughly ripe. Unripe fruit is extremely astringent, but throughly ripened fruit is sweet and delicious (though some may not like the soft, pudding-like texture). Persimmons can be eaten fresh, dried or cooked into pies, cookies and cakes. Native Americans used them in gruel, cornbread and pudding. I think it's safe to pick them before they are soft and ripen indoors to get them right where you want for eating.
