Default 1981 FC air bags (blown)

I'm on the side of the road in Ky. with a blown rear air bag. I found numbers on the forum for a 1987 FC are the bags the same in the 1981. firestone 358-9039 for the rear? That is the number I gave the mobile mechanic who is picking it up. Hope it's the correct one. If someone could chime in and let me know I would appreciate it.

Ron that sounds like the correct number for FC's. Maybe someone else could also confirm the number for an 81, since this is one of the earliest air suspension systems..
The air line is copper, you could pinch the line with vise grips to stop the air leak, and drive to a safe place or repair shop.

that number does sound right. As Bill said, if you can get to the line, plug it and get off the road, be careful.

I took a gamble and told the mobile repair guy to get that part number. Called Rick Shawver and he seemed top think it was the correct one as well. Now well see how good the Good Sam road service is. Mechanic should be here in 30 minutes. If all goes well will be back on the road this afternoon. thanks for replying.

Im going to take the Bus in and have all the rest of the air bags replaced. Could someone verify that I have the correct numbers for the front bags. I have Firestone 358-8992 for the front and of course 358-9039 for the rears. thanks Ron

Here is a thread found under Wanderlodge Owners Group > Mechanic's Corner > FC (Forward Control Unique Issues) > FC Parts List > FC Air Bags

-----------------------------------------

This is from an old post on the old forum that I kept for my files;

AIR SPRING/BAG PARTS NUMBERS FOR '82 FC35RB

8992 PREFERED or 8997(LONG STUD) FRONT
9039 REAR

The front air spring is Bluebird part number 263581 at a price of $209.92. The Ridewell part number is 100-358-8992C. Would this be equivalent to a Firestone part number 8992?
Bluebird part number is 1263581. My Ridewell suspension drawing shows the Ridewell part number as 100-358-8992C, this is Firestone part number W01-358-8992. Firestone bus catalog cross references B/B 1263581 to W01-358-8997 but this is Ridewell 100-358-8997C.

What this means is that there are actually two part numbers that fit, Firestone W01-358-8992 and W01-358-8997. The only difference is the length of the bottom stud. 8992 has a 0.65" stud length, and 8997 has a 1.00" stud length.
The rear air spring is Bluebird part number 0961250 at a price of $195.14. The Ridewell part number is 100-358-9039C. Would this be equivalent to a Firestone part number 9039?

The 8992 with the short stud. The nut just fits flush with the end of the stud. The shortstud version is slightly easier to install, and would be less suseptable to corrosion and damage as there is nothing hanging out below the nut. Can't imagine the extra 0.35" of the 8997 would ever be a problem though.

Did you check eBay, I bought one of each a few weeks back. Also if you have a Fleet Pride store they can get them.

They also have the airtech unit on ebay
