Question Campground near Asheville, NC

We're gonna be in/near Asheville, NC around Christmas this year for a few days and are looking for a good campground quickly accessible to 40 East kinda near Swannanoa. There are 3 CGs that I've found the KOA, Mama Gerties and another near downtown Swannanoa. We've driven thru Mama Gerties - kinda on side of a big hill and visited the KOA which was OK, but ?? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
thanks

He Ed,

I always use Rutledge Campground. Mama Girties is okay, but getting my big bus up there is a problem. Rutledge is very nice.

Ed, We have stayed at Bear Creek a few times when passing through. If you get on the high side you have a nice view of Ashville. http://www.ashevillebearcreek.com/index.html

David,
Hadn't seen ya at Hyde Park for a while!! We like Rutledge, but want to be east on 40 - right now focused on Miles Motor RV Center & CG. Have never seen it but their pics, etc as well as talking on phone with them seems quite positive. I too believe Gerties is great for a mountain goat.
Thanks
Ed

I agree with John McGinnis - Bear Creek is a nice place to stay and this time of year you have a great view if parked up the hill.

Don't be turned off by the narrow road into Bear Creek. Once you navigate in the sites are good sized and the way out is less hair raising than the way in. The park is also near a very large Farmer's Market and a very good family restaurant whose name escapes me.

We've also stayed at Mama Gertie's - very nice people there - but it is on the steep side going in. I recommend either of these campgrounds over the KOA.

Default Will give Bear Creek a shot

Thanks for the referalto Bear Creek - we'll have a short stay there see Biltmore at Nite and have Christams dinner at Grove park Inn with our oldest son kinda on his way to Arkansas (Bentonville). Closed Rte 40 adds about 90 miles to his trip.

Try Hominy Valley Rv park. THis is a cute little park with a great view. A fellow RV'r built this 6 space park. Full hook ups. It is on the honor system. You put the money in an envelope and drop it in the mailbox. There is a review on rvparkreviews.com. Rates are about $12 to $15 a nite. Convenient location.
