Default FC windshields

I have read many times on various forums that if you needed a windshield it is much cheaper to buy it from a Bus dealer. I needed both for my 88 FC. I was going to make an insurance claim but when I saw that people had bought the windshields for under $200 I thought: Why bother with insurance. I contacted a BB bus dealer and discovered that one side ( i forget which, but think it was the left) has been discontinued. That window fits 86 to 88 FC's and PT's. It will still be available from a good glass shop or Coach Glass but the price will be more than $500 per side. The side that is still available was over $200.

When kids threw rocks at my front windshields in my '63 Bluebird it cost $1,000 to have a glass company come to the house and replace both. Now I'm going to be looking to replace my '78 Wanderlodge driver's side due to a rock thrown up from a truck while travelling. I usually just go to the local Bluebird dealer as the early FC's were school busses originally. I also have a 82 parts bus so will see if that windshield is inter-changable with my 78.

My passenger side windshield was replaced just after I bought my coach but I don't have the cost on it. It was paid by the prior owners insurance and they were waiting for the glass to come in when I bought the coach. Mike, it was American Glass in Scottsdale that replaced it. I don't think that is the guy who used to contract with Scottsdale schools. He seemed to have lots of stock. He could smash all the districts windshields on Thurs night and have them all back in service by Monday morning. I think he is still a guest of the taxpayers.

Last year I ordered a new front windshield rubber gasket from BB. It was only $100US. At the same time I had both my windshields replaced by the local "Apple Auto Glass" shop under insurance. He replaced them with Coach Glass windshields. The glass shop said that they had trouble finding windshields, and just ended going to Coach Glass. They are nice but, the total bill was over $2000. I had to pay the deductible.

if you will send me the complete numbers off the windshields your respective coaches
I will attempt to source the glass from my suppliers
the numbers will a series of lines on the lower corner of the glass
it is important to keep the lines straight and in order
SP windshields will be hard to get and I do not have a source of gaskets as of yet. the gaskets can be recycled or used again

While researching part numbers for a fellow owner
the part numbers were no longer available for a drivers windshield
now this part number may be available as another part number I did not get that involved in it
This part number can be duplicated in quantity but to make one would be cost prohibitive
if a quantity were ordered the company is willing to make new glass

Bruce last year I had BB change out both my windshields. My main concern was getting the real McCoy rather than some of these aftermarket knockoffs. I had heard first hand of windshields that fit poorly and several people recommending that I get my glass from a recognized BB supplier or BB themselves. I don't think I'll ever go to someone like Speedy Auto Glass and order a windshield. I might get the work done there but I'll ensure the glass comes from the right factory.
