Default New toad!

We saw these at Lake Havasu in January and really liked the concept. I brought down a '72 VW Sports Buggy and a UTV which worked well except the VW on off road adventures rode like my 10 yard dump truck. I didn't remember that as a kid but after 2 back surgeries I do now! The UTV road like a Cadillac except the top speed was only 27 mph. (diesel). I started studying these and was going to wait until next January and get one from Arizona Motors after we got down there. My biggest concern was fighting with DMV to get it licensed and plated.
I was checking our local Craigslist 3 weeks ago and was shocked to see this one (the first in Oregon) for sale with Oregon plates ready to go! My wife said yes! The seller spent 6 months going back and forth with DMV before finally getting plates. He owns a big local car stereo company called "Outrageous Audio" and decided a new Viper would be more fun. (LS plates ) That is a new designation for a growing category of street legal side by sides. In Oregon I am legal everywhere except Interstates. 45 mph is supposed to be the limit. In Arizona the limit is whatever it can do. The actual top speed stock is 70mph. It has an automotive 3 cylinder engine and a 5 speed transmission. Just check youtube for "Reeper UTV" . They are known as "Discovery, Quadix, Moon 800, Drx4 and several other names. They come in 2 door, 4 door, 2 and 4wheel drive and are EPA approved. I added a heater and some creature comforts and a hard top with soft sides and back. I think it will work great on our trips since we seldom go freeways anyway. I will use our 12 foot trailer instead of our 24 footer.
Now I will paint the '72 VW Shalako and sell it . www.arizonamotorsllc.com

There is a guy just down the road from me that sells these. They are cool but I spent a whole lot less for my 2006 Jeep Unlimited. Not sure I understand the advantage of one of these.

We loved going out in the desert thru the washes and up narrow trails where Jeeps are a little too wide. It is all in what you like to do. This will do ruff roads , no roads, and anywhere it will fit. No knocking Jeeps for their versatility. We have a Liberty we love also but by us there are some lakes we can't get to for fishing and with this we can.

They are clearly more narrow. I guess I haven't found anyplace I couldn't get my Jeep through or over, but I haven't been through some of the narrow trails and washes you have been on. The Reeper is a cool machine, but the guy up here has some hot prices on them. I'll take my Jeep, that is lifted 4", with a off road suspension and tires, and my winch about anyplace, but may not be able to follow you

I know they are not for everyone but I will be pulling only 2500 lbs. with this and it gets 40 mpg. There will be trips the Jeep will make more sense.

That's a definite plus I won't get half that with my Jeep. It is a gas hog.

That's a Cool little ride . 40 mpg sounds nice . Our Lj averages around 15 . The Reeper is not for us , but it is sweet .

If I could figure out a way to flat tow it without a trailer?... After all, my Fiat 500 Pop is about the same size, weight and gas mileage but the Reeper-Viper would be a whole lot more fun!

They don't recommend towing them but there is a guy who is and he has had
no issues.
