Default Out with the Microphor

So, the new Tecma Silence Plus is here. Tonight was the time to take out the old Microphor.

And its all gift wrapped and ready for the next owner:

It looks like new one will be a pretty easy install. The water and discharge lines are in just the right spot. All I'll need to do is run 12v power from up behind the back bed where I have a spare breaker that is just the right size.

But first, this needs a good cleaning. Updates to follow...............

Did you go with the water pump version or the solenoid version? I looked at the Thetford website but I dont understand the difference.
Very interested!

Randy,

I am two gnats hairs away from installing a Tecma as Sky did. The Microphor just has to make one more hiccup and it's history. This summer I am going to install the wiring to be ready. That ought to intimidate the thing.

The difference between the pump version and solenoid version is whether you have water pressure. We do, so we use a solenoid. On a boat that draws flush water from the briny deep, a pump is needed.

Sky, are you coming to Shipshewanna? I'd like to see your installation.

Tecmas are marketed by Thetford. They look good. My only question is whether they were designed by the Splendide Italian engineers, or the Ferrari-type engineers.

Wow, specs say to fuse for 40 amps. That did get my attention. I assume that is because of the macerator.

Ron,
I am not coming to that one. I still have a bunch of work to do on the coach. All the fluids have been changed including coolant (wow, 18 gallons!!). I still have a little body/paint work to do, new tires, and numerous other little stuff to take care of. The more I dig into, the more I see that needs to be done. I'm even thinking about replacing the windows. I can't believe they didn't use thermopane sliders. Then there is my storage building that I'm trying to finish this summer; I still need insulate it and get it ready to store this beast for the winter.

We have reservations in the U.P. for Labor Day so that will be a great test. I am thinking that the Ludington Rally will probably be my first. I'm assuming that will happen again this year. But you're welcome to check it out anytime. I'm in Williamston, just east of Lansing off of 96, if you get up this way.

I know there are some that swear by the Microphor so I am saving everything including the Thomas compressor which looks like new. I don't want to disappoint the diehards by trashing it before they get a shot at it.

I have three of the Raritan Atlantes toilets on my boat. They are very similar in design to this Tecma and have performed flawlessly for the last 8 or 9 years now. I did not buy another Raritan since they do not seem to market them to the RV market. But, I like the design and thought I'd give this Tecma a go as it looks like they market it to both the marine and RV industry. We'll see how it performs. At 40 amps, it should grind up and push through just about anything.
