Default Large Marge’s restoration/maintenance

Hi all, I picked Marge last November and drove her home from Tampa. I got her new shoes, Sumitomos, from a great tire company Foy’s tire in Tampa. I got a truck shop to do the oil, lube, and make sure she was safe to drive the 1500 miles safely. I got stuck at the shop for 2 days over the weekend, because he found a leak off the radiator which turned into nothing to bad, and kind of a waste to stay there, but things happen for a reason they say. Anyway, made it home in 2 1/2 days. Marge developed a leak on one of the valves that isolate the chassis heat loop. Turned out to be a packing nut. That got done one warm winter afternoon. I’ll try and attach pictures. Replaced the o-rings and rapped the stem in graphite string packing. No more leak.

Default Next on the list

So this is what I’ve gotten to next....we had decided to go see my nephew and his family, he has a little boy my daughters age, in Vermont for July 4th. One of the things I had wanted to do was reinforce the dog house insulation. Just like every other fc owner, I feel like there can be improvements in the insulation, especially on this particular trip being that the north east was going through a heat wave, 90plus temps. I put dynamat extreme all over the outside of the dog house, and 3/4 dynamat hood liner around the bottom “u” base, and where ever else I could get it to stick. I left the green foam type material on the inside top. It made a huge difference not only in heat, but also in sound. I still think it can be better but for now I’m really happy with it. We left on Sunday and drove down to New Jersey to pick up my parents, they are 86, and headed up to Vermont. On the way up it got wicked hot, when I realized the summer/winter heat switch was on. Then in Troy NY the generator cut out for good. That was bad, because we were pushing temps in marge around 100. Thankfully we made it to the hotel and got them cool. Then headed to my nephews and over the next few days figured out that the battery Spears to be the problem. The battery gets so low that the generator cuts out and won’t run. Charged the battery up and it ran all the way home. I’m still working on that fix, and as you can all imagine a bunch of other things. Next up will be black and grey tank inlet flush fittings and dump valves straight from Dupree Products. Here are so pictures of the insulation.

I almost forgot, if you look at the picture with the cuppling on the 1/4 copper line, that’s the return line on the fuel system that when I disturbed it I got a leak. Only took 6 hours and Steve Pappas help. Thank you Steve!

Default Black tank wash, new leds, and microwave cover

Last few things I’ve done were the above. I broke the black water flush on the tank while bringing her home from Florida. While we were in Vermont the check valve wasn’t holding and well there was some stuff leaking out. Found the fill on amazon, just a marine deck fill, and the rest was standard plumbing supplies. At the same time I did new tank valve seals from Dupree products. A big problem I found with Marge and I’m sure a lot of fcs have this problem is that it really dark in there. It’s ironic, because being in a fiberglass class a i always thought it was too bright. Anyway I replaced the fans with new standard fantastic fans and while I was there I put in a 8” round led that is dimable and will turn blue, which is great for night driving. They tut on from the original light switch on the cabinet. Last but not least I enclosed the new smaller microwave and secured it. Just some 3/4 plywood and chalk paint and it’s pretty close to the cabinet facing. Next on the list is dealing with a chipmunk who is trying to move in and some mechanical issues....mainly the air step....ugh!

Can your new round LED turn red as well as blue?
Red would be the prefered color. Your eyes accept the red while not dilating which I doubt is the case with blue.
Running at night with red is the standard in our boating world.

No only blue....yes I would of liked it to turn red, but at the time couldn’t find one. I can tell you this blue didn’t affect me while driving. I’m not sure if they technically dialate ur eyes or not, but it did not affect me down a dark rainy back road in the country. It let’s just enough light for me to see the gauges, because most of the gauge lights are out on the dash....just another project...ha!
