And the good news is that I have it parked back in it's comfy garage before the snow starts.
Thanks for the tip on the scharader valve Rick. Worked great once we got the air leak temporarily stopped. Still a newbie but I don't feel quite so green now - - - The mechanic helping me will be working on it after I leave tomorrow. So, no play time in the bus. Hope he can get it squared away so I can actually spend a couple of learning weeks in April. Thanks for all the comments folks. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Oh no! You got the full measure of belt-driven accessory h&##. Those fan belts can pack some mean trouble--just one of them thrown or broken can take out others. Getting them on the right grooves and tightened takes some practice.
Attached is a pic of my fan belt notes for '91 SP36. The NAPA green Fleet Runners are the gold standard for long life. I guess I didn't write down which belt size goes where. Note that I did write down the lengths in mm and inches--I try to get NAPA to sell me matched belts because length does vary from one belt to the next, making it hard to tighten evenly where two belts are used. Alternator is the exception, mine runs on one belt tho the pulley is two grooves. Thed procedure for tightening belts has a twist or two. At one point you tighten up, then loosen and tighten some more. John Finn, RIP, posted a good description with pics of how to do this. I'll help you find it if you want, it is crucial info when replacing belts. Hope you've had all the hard problems now. Good Luck.

Ned you should have 2 belts driving the Air Compressor then the same 2 belts drive the Alternator which is used for the tensioner. I would like to see a picture of what you have going on with a single belt Alternator.

Ok, Rick, I will document and upload it to us here.
As David Brady, no longer here but used to say, there is no free lunch. In other words, the more juice an alternator is called on to output, the harder it is to turn the alternator. Bringing four 6V deep cycle batts at 12.2v up to 100% means lots of torque being transmitted thru those belt(s).

Thanks for the Finn information Ned.
I did send that to the mechanic that did the work but whether he followed the instructions I don't know. I will send it again to reinforce the procedure. Thanks also for the belt information. I'll send that to him as well. There is a NAPA attached to the shop so the belts will be easy for him to get.
