Older BBs have remote detectors in addition to the main one. They are little power suckers!

It seems like a propane signal setting it off . 1/2 tank but did it shut the gas off ?

That's where I would start looking. I wouldn't place any faith in those unless the system has been upgraded.

Yeah, really want to upgrade the propane leak detector/supply valve arrangement.

One new Safe-T-Alert detector and shut-off valve will ably replace the various small detectors everywhere. About $150 on eBay for the pair as a kit, easy to install.
