How to change a RACOR filter was a recent topic...This is from YouTube...and shows a typical marine RACOR filter change.
So, if you disregard the dual filter marine aspects, and maintain the proper micron filter size for your specific application...it will give you a good preliminary orientation to changing the filter. A good "refill" option is to use ATF. It is already properly filtered.

Some more tips;
Wanderlodge Owners Group > Mechanic's Corner > Engine > Racor Fuel Filter elements Add a switch to the electric fuel pump to aid in filling the fuel filters, I use it instead of prefilling the filters with ATF, after I place a plastic coffee can under the filter, I either leave the water separator filter (the Baldwin in my case) lid slightly loose or the CAT Engine fuel filter slightly loose. turn on the electric fuel pump and let it fill up with fresh fuel and then close the lid or tighten the filter. ![]()

Here is a manual also for the RACOR 900 series (model # common on some BB's), with service and troubleshooting info:
http://www.parker.com/literature/Rac...ne_Filters.pdf With the video and this manual...a filter change is a simple task with no fear! Filter Sources: online and of course NAPA, FleetPride, etc but also marine engine parts sources such as West Marine. With the engine filter (spin on filter mounted near prime pump) at 2 microns...a 10 or my preferred size 30 micron filter is used on the RACOR.

John,
In that picture on the left of the Cat 3208 square 'Fuel water separator' did you know they are prone to suction side air leaks from the seals. The original design was from Stanadyne. Engines that used that filter had issues with air in the injection system, especially after changing. The fuel water separator was originally a cloth sock! There are a lot of excellent choices for a fuel water separators but this ain't one of them, never was. ![]() Lesser expensive and still very capable are aftermarket replacements available from Fleetguard and Baldwin for Racor filters. Both brands are widely available form heavy truck dealers. Avoid Cummins as their prices for Fleetguard are fantasy island redux. West Marine is no bargain either. For those who do not know, the Racor elements have color codes to denote the micron rating of the media. At the moment, I do not have that info available. Avoid use of the 2 micron on the suction side filtration as it is unnecessary and very short service life.

Gary, I agree about the leakage after changing the old square glass filter and then working the air out of the system with the hand pump, that is one of the first things we here on WOG tell a member to check when they encounter the air getting into their fuel injection system on a CAT 3208. So when we moved it from the engine doghouse area down to where it is in the picture, we eliminated the glass filter adapter and I no longer use the hand pump, but now use the switch for the electric fuel pump to accomplish the same thing, it is very quick and easier that way and I have not had any air getting into the system ever since this modification, which I got the idea from Mike Hohnstein. On an off topic note, yesterday I was looking at some pictures of where the old CAT 3208 Engine Plant at Mount Joy, Iowa used to be located and was thinking about you.
