Caterpillar 3208 Solutions This sub-forum is hosted by Mike Hohnstein who has been at this kind of thing for 50+ years now, guess I'm addicted. The saga has been all about progressively larger shop space since then. Honestly, never wanted to get into the CAT 3208's that were originally considered to be a throwaway engine but that's all that works in a FC in my world. Same thing with my Ford toter, that came with a NA, too much effort to hang in a 6, so been at it with the CAT V-8 for 20 years now. In reality you can get excellent life out of a CAT 3208 if it's built correctly. Post your questions about the CAT 3208 engines here and Mike will try to help you out.

No money to pay someone, had to do ourselves. I remember using vice grips to hold the spring in place and a flat head to pry the spring over the retaining tab. I lost some skin from either the spring or the screwdriver, enough to remind me that I should hire more repairs out.

Sorry Mike, not here to step on toes.

My friend called me and tried to get the new spring on. He could not get the bolt out. It was to long. ( Mike is smiling)

Might have been replaced once with a too long bolt. Lot of bolt lengths are very specific and particular to the location in the various components.

This thread helped us find that our spiral spring is broken. Can it be changed in the engine? The bolt appears to be original. It’s all the way unthreaded, but it won’t come out, as it’s against the side of the head. Not sure if cutting the bolt is a big idea and getting a new one?
