Default Blue Bird Moment

Hi

My step lights (inside and out) have never worked. I had to much time on my hands so I thought I would repair them. Yea right!!!!

I checked the bulbs both were good.
I pulled the toggle switch in the step well power center, to check it and the wires for power. Both green wires were dead. With the meter on the switch it seems to operate. The grounds are good.
Are the lights fused if so where are the fuses. I checked the glass fuses in the load centers and all were good.
Where do they pull power from?
I don't have schematics.

Any Hints on how to proceed ?

Henry

There was no power at the toggle switch.

Just as FYI...on my '85: If the step switch in the stairwell is set to "normal" (not "step out"); when the door is OPEN the lights to come on. The lights go off when door closed. If step switch is set to "step out"...lights are on all the time.

The light is controlled my one of the two big pin switches in the upper door frame. I think one does the door and one is for the alarm.

When mine works...the small relay in the stepwell box "clicks".

Don't know if this helps, but at least you know what normal operation is.

Good luck!

Hey Henry,
I do have all the step wiring diagrams, so if you need assistance just let me know!!!
but the first thing I would do is get rid of the meter and use a 12 test light to test with

In my door jamb are several button switches. As previously mentioned, make sure those work. One of mine was stuck in.
