Have a safe drive Dan, and a great trip.
Kiki, I used the crankshaft bolt and a thin washer like Dan’s mechanic. I was out in the middle of nowhere on a weekend and didn’t have access to many resources. My new dampener slid on far enough that I had plenty of threads engaged to pull the part on. If I were doing it at home I’d probably find an installer. You don’t want to damage those crankshaft threads.

Just curious.... How did the failure of the balance felt , sounded like when it happened while driving ? What would be the signs that the balance is about to go ?
Is it squeal sound that amplifies with rpm's, a grinding sound, or a vibration, however you can explain it....

I know it would not apply to my bus with a rear DD 8v92

Metallic grinding sound in my case. Lucky I heard it.

Ditto to that. At first I thought it was a thrown belt rapping around the fan. But after checking my gauges and lifted the dog house to see what was what. Then I went outside with a headlight on and upon further inspection found the culprit.

I am now at Al's in Ormand Beach enjoying a burger watching his wife play in an open mike night at Hidden Treasure.
