I like your approach - sort first. You can buy a printer/scanner for about $100 that will do letter and legal size docs - you probably have one. I use 100 or 200 dpi on mine top keep the file size smallish. Then take the big stuff to an office supply for scanning - that will cost $$$.

Or you could hand it over to a service that will again cost $$$. They won't have a clue what they're working on so sort first and give it to them in batches. Should be a service to convert microfiche.

Just my 2 cents - good luck!!!

We helped with the document transfer, and shipment to Randy.
BB added to this pile of documents for over 40 years, surely it was is some organized order, then BB & Wanderlodge changed owners several times.
Then the remains went to auction. We had about 4 hours to split off the unnecessary paperwork, anything questionable was saved packed and shipped.
We will never know what percentage of the total we received or if all the documents were saved. But we thank Parliament for rescuing this information and Randy for rescuing and saving what remains.
We are greatful for what we have saved. I do not think we found the elusive dreamed about bound booklet with each body number. but we have valuable information that has been saved and stored for many decades, maybe it just has historical and sentimental value.
So the goal seems to be rescue and save, until the next chapter of recovery.
But for now this forum has repaired many Birds & helped many owners, and is still the best resource for safe dependable Wanderlodge travel.
Thanks again to Randy & remember he only has 9 good fingers and 1 in recovery

But a couple of thoughts. It needs to be kept is one place, and one person need to have control.
I would think it would be possible to rent a building, maybe just a storage building where preliminary Sorting could be done, to see what need to be end results.
May not be practical to copy everything, could get pretty expensive. But if it is sorted where needed info could be found when needed, good first step.
I think Mallie is right. Ideally, it needs to be kept in one place with controls on securing/monitoring it like a library. Unfortunately, this could get expensive.

There are policies, standards and procedures for dealing with this type of information. It may be helpful to review some of this and modify accordingly to accommodate the WOG information. There is an example at the following link:

there is a place nearby that i'm looking at,a building with room to park a few Birds.
But,it will take work to set the place up with power, water and sewer.

I'm thinking long term, this sorting and filing and scanning is going to take a few years i bet.

After all,Parliament has had it for 8 years, and they never got it all scanned.
Some of it has been scanned,at least the box has a note on it saying so.
But,at this point, every box needs to be opened, and sorted.

Then we need to see just whats in the sorted stuff, compare it to what we have in the WOG files, and go forward from there.

Personally,i can't look at the stuff and decide what to keep,i do know we are not keeping employee files, social security numbers and that kind of thing.

Theres junk in the files, and theres gold too.
So,we sort, and then we get the guys in that know whats in the WOG files, let them look at the sorted files.let them make the call as to what needs to be scanned.
The rest stays in the file cabinets.
Until we decide what to do with them.

Should we sell/give/donate a Body number packet to the person that owns that coach, with that body number?
Let that owner deal with it?keep it?protect it?

Or,keep it all in one place?

You guys that care about this stuff, you need to speak up.
Keeping this stuff is going to cost money, unless we do just as Parliament did, pack it away in a semi trailer.

Storing, sorting, scanning is all going to cost money and time.
How do we go about raising the money to do this?
Whats fair?

Is this a historical treasure?
Or just a major pain in the rearend?

Randy, Thanks to you a Parliament. My personal opinion is that once whatever is done with the data that it be kept in two separate locations for disaster recovery purposes. If it is scanned and burned to DVD then 2 DVDs need to be made and one moved to a separate location. Just my 2 cents.

Careful there Randy.

I can see the challenge in this. Doing this as a group will be challenging because we've got the hoarder types who would consider everything valuable and then the others who would see little value to most of it.

Could you see a way to develop list of what to keep and what to get rid of that could be followed by others?

Instructions so that others could do the work

Interesting problem!
Heres something i noticed and was a part of on the initial "quick sort".
Everyone one of us sorting got caught up at times during the sort.
I found myself looking at the BMC docs, since we don't hear much about BMCs.

NHBill was looking for docs for his coach.
Doc was looking at 380 stuff.
Lets face it,we all have an interest in this stuff, and its easy to spot something that pertains to your model coach.

And then there was the "Odd" stuff.

Like the full size drawing of a dash assembly for a wanderlodge, complete with gauges etc.
But,the markings for the gauges, switchs etc were all in Arabic.
Maybe this was for the coachs sent to Sadam?

This document will be needed by none of us,but would make great wall paper for a "man cave".
Or on the mens room wall!
