Default ABQ to ATL route advice

Newbie looking for advice on first trip in the bird, driving it from ABQ to ATL in a couple of weeks. I’m assuming take I-40 to Memphis and then drop down to Birmingham on 78?

How’s 78 from Memphis to Birmingham? Any recommendations for nice RV parks along the way, big rig and newbie friendly. ;-)

Sorta worried about traveling through tornado alley this time of year. Only option would be to come across on I-10 and then turn north at Mobile. Seem’s like an expensive detour.

What Ernie said. I might even turn at Wichita Falls and go across HWY 82 and down to 20 on Hwy 69 to miss DFW. But honestly Ernie's way usually isn't too bad.

Have never driven through DFW, kinda thought it was like ATL, avoid at all cost. Not so?

Timing is the operative word. If you hit the northwest side of Ft Worth around 10 am, and keep on going, you will be on I-20 east of 635 almost before you know it. A wreck can happen at anytime- hopefully not in front of you.
Another alternative route from Wichita Falls, take 281 south to I-20. this avoids the construction on I-35W and 287 merge. maybe the best route, actually

Shortest, fastest and perhaps roughest road route would be I 40 to I 55 to US 78 to I 20. Oklahoma City, Little Rock, Memphis and the B'ham. I can promise you will miss the DFW traffic that way but you may have a few slow downs in other spots.

78 from Memphis to Birmingham is 4 lanes and a fine road.

I-20 through MS & AL was really rough last year, almost ejected from the drivers seat. 78 from Memphis to Birmingham is great, 4 lane. Traffic getting on 78 from I40 in Memphis and off to I20 at Birmingham, but well worth it.
