Default 2004 M380

M380 just popped up locally 175k miles, so the head gasket has been done I bet!

Great coach, looked at it yesterday, but with 175k miles on the original head gasket, and perhaps more importantly, on the original (and unobtainable) ball joints, I think I sadly have to pass on this one. That $60k price is nice!

The ball joints are available, but they are pricey.
I wouldn’t give the head gasket a second thought, most of the 380 fleet still has the original head gasket.

Thanks for the reply, please share the info/link to the availability of Ball Joints for the 380/450? My understanding is only 2nd hand used if your lucky from Randy or scrapers.

Dan Hartley https://www.coachparts.net/
There are other vendors, google is your friend.
Are the ball joints bad on this 380, they were designed to run for many thousand miles.

For a discussion about how long an ISL should last, check out this 3 YO iRV2.com thread. Will our ISL’s last 500K or 1 mil miles? With proper maintenance and care, you bet. Will the rest of the coach last that long? It’s a Wanderlodge so same answer. The motor in that coach you’re looking at is likely a 2001-2003, so good for 1 million?

New Ball Joints - Lance has a line on new BJ’s. Last cost I saw was $3,500. Ryan even made us a crowd funded tool set. Many have added Ryan’s boot kits and done the Zerk grease fitting mod. With that and proper maintenance, I’m confident new ball joints may never be needed

Ball joint boots - Check Here - problem solved with Ryan’s split boot kits.

Given proper maintenance, care and records, I wouldn’t hesitate to consider a higher mileage M380. If it was from one of our WOG members, so much the better.

I don't know who to believe I guess, I did a lot of reading, threads on this forum and others where a number of people are stating that suspension parts are hard to find and that ball joints especially are "not available". That scares me, and I know that current owners don't want potential buyers to be scared off.

Mark,
You gots to pick someone to believe. Not sure why you are here on WOG, but you'll find an enthusiast audience who love and care for these excellent machines. We aren't flippers looking to profit on sale of M380s.

Recently a late 80s Wanderlodge PT38 surfaced in near-flawless condition with 900k miles on it. I think this is one of the few that actually was stress tested.

I suggest go to a WOG rally and decide for yourself the motivation of the group here.

I consider these to be 500k to 1M units and would not be put off by 175k miles with proper service records.
good luck,

Doug

You need to check the dates on those posts,or maybe post a new thread asking if we have found a source for 380 ball joints.
Some of our posts go back a few years...
