Its a hat channel, the hat part is 1'' or so.
Its tough as ,well, its BB steel.
Yes,you can screw right into it with no problems, use a high quality screw or it will not screw in,BB used good steel.
Yes,you can hang a TV on the screws,no rivnuts needed.
And,not shown in this drawing, but i think theres a steel beam that goes from front to back under the windows, the body skin rivets to this beam.
Take the window trim down and take a look behind it,i think the wall covering will pull away enough so you can see behind it.

I was going to do a swing arm on the side wall on Baby Bluey.
What I was going to do was take a 8"x10"x3/4" block of solid wood and screw it to the side with about 12 screws that would not penetrate the original wall. Then I would mount the swing arm to this piece of wood with 1 1/2" screws.
This would have given enough support for our 42" TV without going thru the walls and possibly getting any wires.
Just a thought!!

First, thanks to everyone for the comments and pics.

Since I have no wood to attach to, I am going to use 1/4" aluminum plate (painted black per DW), long enough to span between the upright hat channel and the same width as the TV mount. 3/8" X 1" self drilling screws to mount the plate to the hat channel.

And we'll see what happens........ LOL!
