Default 8KW Onan

My fan motor doesn't seem to run. Is it supposed to run all the time? I had the gen running today, the water got up to about 200 and the fan did not come on so I shut it off. I was wondering if someone switched to the hayden on this particular gen. The fan motor heated up to about 160 but never started . Does that indicate that the motor may be bad? Is the fan motor 120V? The Onan manuals don't seem to have anything on the cooling of the gen.
I had the bus out two weeks ago to exercise it and top the tank, all worked fine but I never checked if the gen fan was running. I suppose if it was to overheat it would shut off by itself?

The fan should run all the time, it is a 208 volt fan and a good indication that the Gennie is producing 220 volts. The motor or starting capacitor is probably defective if the all circuits are powered with 120V.
The Kubota engine will soon overheat or shut down if the overtemp circuit is operational.

Thanks Bill,
The gen is producing enough power for the two AC and battery charger. I was surprised that it did not shut off by itself when the water got up to 200. I suppose the next step is to remove and replace the fan motor then check the overheat circuit.
I am guessing that the motor is bad since it was hot but not turning.
Has anyone used a hayden unit with this gen?

Default 8KW Onan

OK guys
I replaced the cooling fan and capacitor. Runs fine. I am now on drugs and adult beverage for the pain, but the gen works fine with some help.
It seems that the facet pump can't keep up by itself. I have to tap it to get it pumping. The gen will act like it is running out of fuel and stop. If I power the pump directly from the battery the gen works fine. Do you think it is the fuel pump or the pesky cannon plug or the control board. Does anybody have the specs on the pump, it seems that Onan is proud of their product. Looking on ebay there are several pumps just like mine but vary in performance. They are roughly $100 cheaper. Seems it has been raining money on the Bus lately and I would like to slow it down if possible.

Do not always believe the temp on the dash. Mine was showing high remps but when I used an infrared therm. on the Kubota there was no place where it exceeded 185. Did you also check that little fan that is supposed to bring cooler air into the compartment? Have you grown fresh skin on your knuckles?? I feel your pain!

Default 8KW Onan

I Have got to say that this WOG group is the greatest thing going. I took the info on the fan motor and capacitor to granger everything is right on.
Thanks guys
Now to the pump, I will go to NAPA tomorrow during lunch and get one. I think that the model with the lowest capacity should do it without knowing the exact requirements . The kobata doesn't drink much. I discovered the small fan during demolition but did not do anything with it.

I think it will take a few days to heal. Usually Mondays at work I don't feel very good!
