Fred, any chance that it was offshore tires that gave you 11 and 15 years service?

Hi Jim,

Old tires are Firestone.

BTW, I like the bus barn you showed on a different thread.

Thanks Fred, I wish I had some updates but the weather up here is making it hard to get much building done, Roof is on and one side shingled but that is all.
Snowing again

This winter has sure been one for the records. Here in Humboldt County CA we are experiencing severe drought... We usually are wet and soggy from rain.

My Canadian relatives are telling us of cold, but this year it extended south... My son in Nashville tells of cold temps.

Stay warm.

Fred

Default Top hat 15/16 nuts

Installer here now.

Removing top hat, once the lid is off, requires a deep socket 15/16". This was a curve ball. Installer at the nearby auto parts store buying a socket.

It is more fun to watch others work.

Photo is inverted, maybe because the iPad position when shot?

Fred I hope you are kidding. Top hat is not removed. even upside down, all I can see is the axle nuts, not the lug nuts.

If you look closely the top hat is held on by tabs under three of the axle nuts.

Hence the trip to the auto parts store... His truck tool box did not have the 15/16" socket.

I added this to my shopping list. My set has the size but not a in a deep well.

The rubber trim around the wheel well was a struggle to deal with.

Also, I learned that it is impossible to get a bottle jack under the axles without crawling WAY under the bus.

The left rear was the worst... The guy completely disappeared while I was helping a neighbor change a propane bottle.

I also learned that the driver side of the bus has left hand threads... That woulda been a hard lesson if I were removing the wheels by myself.
