Default accident on I-40

Happened about 9:30 PM Sunday April 24.

50 miles east of Nashville TN on I-40 east bound.
Came up over a slight rise to see the big rig in front of me changing lanes from the right to left lane. No big deal, probably someone on the shoulder. So the big rig was going to move over, I'd do the same as soon as the car to my left passed me.

WRONG!!

The truck was moving over alright, because there was a WASHING MACHINE in the middle of the right lane. Yep...a washing machine standing upright pretty as could be in the right lane. I guess it fell off someone's trailer and the guy never stopped.

Well, remember that car I had to my left? Apparently he saw it at the same time I did and realized I needed to move over to the left lane and QUICK. Well...I'm standing on the brakes, hoping for enough room to miss that washer, but 12K lbs of trailer on the back of the coach wasn't helping any in my attempt to slow down so the car could pass me. He went over to his left as far as he could, but didn't quite get passed me in time.

Well, I missed the Chevy but nailed the Maytag. The sound was deafening inside the coach. We sent that sucker somersaulting across the shoulder into the weeds. That baby ain't doing NO more laundry...EVER again.

I managed to come to a safe stop on the shoulder, cussing the whole time. Go out to inspect the damage expecting to see a disaster.
NO DAMAGE TO THE COACH. Except the right bumper was pushed back VERY slightly. Just need to straighten the bracket behind it a little. NO body damage. Not even a dent on the chrome bumper.

This event more than pays tribute to the shear strength of our vintage birds.
If this been an SOB or even a fiber-glassed front Bird, it would have been disaster.

Moral of the story...watch out for Maytag's in the road. They may be a good
washing machine...but no match for a vintage BlueBird

That's one of the things I miss about my FC...the glass chin makes me nervous..I keep thinking about one of those Aussie bull bars up front that could fold down so the generator could slide.

More than once I've thought about building a nice Roo-Banger on the front to give it some protection . You never know what might happen to be in the road ahead .
Could be handy for zombies too...lol.

Missed the Chevy, safely removed road hazard Maytag, no damage to Bird. Very efficient!
