Default Kohler Perkins - fan direction - now I did it

Smoke is bluish just like start-up on the bus.

Coolant level is fine.

Sound is like a loud metallic "click", not a low pitched thud.

Have no idea what the oil pressure is. Sensor is dead but plenty of oil on the valve train.

NOOOOOO new genie. Got almost $1000 into fixing this one already.

Regards,

Gary,

Faulty injectors can make a metallic clicking noise, I had all of mine rebuilt. Here is a video of what a NORMAL Perkins sounds like in a 'Bird, along with the Cat and horns, etc..

Did you clean the oil bath air filter and possibly fill the new oil level too much?

Gary, since the valves are all good then next best bet is a bad injector. A decent diesel shop should be able to test them if you pull them.

Default Kohler Perkins - fan direction - never mind

I fired it up one more time for some more diagnostic listening and after about half a dozen knocks, it smoothed out. I think I can still hear a knock but nothing like before. Smokes a bit still but can't really be sure it's much more than before.

I'm going with the injector theory. I probably had a clogged or stuck injector that clear itself (mostly). That would seem consistent with my occasional "stumbling".

Can you rebuild the injectors yourself?
Is there a kit available?
Anyone know the valve clearances while I'm at it?

Regards,

once at maxton we had 2 FCs with us,we were parked across the road from each other, doors facing the road.
when the FCs started there gennies the noise was bad,all that noise was bouning off the coachs across from them.
so,we turned a folding table on its side in front of one FCs gennie, about a foot away from the coach, wow, that stopped a lot of the noise,so we turned another table on its side in front of the other FC,it was sucked right up against the gennie grill.
One fan was blowing OUT,the other was sucking IN.
the two coachs are Bruce campbells coach, and Bill the tulip vendors coach.
they both had different owners back then

On our 86 FC the fan blew out... maybe the motor is wired backwards, fan blade backwards. The I dunno, most I have seen blew out. UH knocking noise? On ours it "what is that"?? Well it was the end bell bearing gone and the rotor hitting the stator.... not good...direct short and new stator... $1000.00 into repairs...**** you just getting started..

That is what the beauty of this forum is or can be, suggestions to fix stuff...just be careful of getting caught up with "throwing new parts at it" Go to the database and check the info there...

my info says if engine knocks check this:
improper fuel
incorrect fuel injection timing
improper cylinder clearance
Defective piston or ring
Defective crankshaft bearing,or piston pin bearing, improper valve clearance

engine smoke:
improper oil
clogged air cleaner
faulty injectors
incorrect injector timing
improper valve clearance
Oil level too high

Just a few things to check... My perkins kohler was replaced... and yep my hair is finally grown back...

My Perkins pulls air in through the vent as well. I would prefer this if you were sitting outside the coach. If it blew air out, you would have a huge draft right under the awning where you wuld likely sit.
