John is a special king of guy. The first I had contact with in this forum 11 years ago. Had a welcoming patience I will never forget. Gods speed John.

Dark slacks and a Texas flag shirt, with John in his coveralls. We had a good laugh at that. I think that Randy has a copy of that.
Steve I found one of those pictures

Well I have not expressed my condolences, But my feelings are very much like the previous 140+ posts X1000.

Finn & I were Friends for the past 15+ years. I was older by several weeks so he would say,
"Bill you are far more mature, you have my most elder respect, but I am Bird smart having owned my Bird several weeks longer, now will you fix my kanuton valve".

So it's time we (I) stop pouting, & have a little fun with a few short Finn stories.
There are many stories, but most are only for around the camp fire.

If there is interest in the Finn adventures, stop by his website for WOG history, repairs, his family, especially Bud & Buddy, plus numerous racing, BB & rally pictures.

Hey admin folks: Just a thought...but with John's passing...is his "iamflagman" hosted here on WOG or elsewhere?

I for one would hate to see this great FC resource lost. Perhaps it could be preserved on WOG?

Heres a fun story.
Just a week ago John andi were talking about the pine wood derby race at wog this year.
I told John i would buy him one,but he did not need to be using saws, drills or any other power tools.
His high speed shakes were really bad and his vision was horrible (he had an appointment for surgery)
I told him while laughing that i was going to build his racer for him,but i was going to saw it crooked and mount the wheels at odd angles, really screw it up,like Homer Simpson would do.
He was laughing so hard, those of you that know him know that "belly laugh" he had.
He said "do it" and i will race it!!
The joke was on him and he loved it!!

I only met John twice at consecutive Pine Mountain rallies,
I made it a point to introduce myself after he "spanked" me
for making a smart *** comment on the WOG with political overtones.

I'm sorry he's gone but it seems to me that
to die in your sleep,
with a legacy of service to your fellow man
and the respect of many,
Is about the best that any of us could hope for.

It is not really my place to do this

as I am a relative newby to this group.
but I would like to suggest a tribute to John
at the upcoming Pine Mountain rally,

maybe something as simple as an empty chair in his usual campsite.

Your right, dying in your sleep is stuff dreams are made of.

But,something the "steering committee" has agreed on long ago is we cannot have tribute's to our fallen members.
To be perfectly frank, our average age makes that a very scary idea.
Its a great idea, but if we were having a bad year we could have a dozen chairs sitting on spots.
sad,but true..
